Practically unknown band gets 6.5M listens for one of their songs, that's pretty unreal. Streaming platforms often get slated for being stingy with payments, but this is the other side of them. It's possible to get played, and played a lot without the big music companies being involved.

Indeed. I think even Arctic Monkeys were 'discovered' over social media initially. But yeah, one great song and as you say, if it strikes a chord you can rack up millions of views and suddenly you have a following.

Rhian (lead singer) is my mates daughter (he is the marine engineer mentioned in the Guardian interview in the link in Geoff’s post). Had lunch with him a couple of weeks back and he just can’t quite believe what’s happening! I don’t think the band can either. He sent me a photo Rhian had taken of the band advertised on a massive building high electronic bill board in the middle of Times Square recently, so he’s a very proud dad! Not been an easy ride for Rhian. I won’t post too much private detail on here, but knowing some of the things she’s been through over the years makes it even more amazing what is happening to them now and couldn’t be more chuffed, as much for my mate as anyone. Unfortunately knowing the lead singers dad hasn’t got me any benefits yet: he couldn’t get me on the guest list at last weeks 100 Club gig!!

Hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread Dolly (and making it just about new discoveries), but can't stop listening to these guys having seen them at the Smokehouse last week. Only a couple of tracks on spotify, but think they're great - the singer has an incredible voice:

I guess it depends where you listen to music, but chaise longue was carpet bombed into ears over 2021.
To be honest, I don't hear a lot of new music these days, tend to stick to my faves and similar finds on Spotify. I still use Shazam (does anyone still have that?!) occasionally. The shop All Saints has been good for picking up stuff that way!
Occasionally listen to Cerys on 6 music but that's about it.

Also other eps on Idles, Ed Sheeran (including some lovely archive from early Suffolk outings) and a discussion of the aforementioned Arctic Monkeys rise too

That's lovely. She reminds me of Harriet Wheeler.
