I know what you're thinking. I was left alone as an 11 year old and it was absolutely fine. He's only 2 years from being a teenager. Is this really a police matter?

I used to stay home alone when my parents went food shopping from the age of about 10. I don't know what the law says but seems like some important information is missing here.

Even finer margin than that... You can leave your kids alone when they turn 12. https://www.gov.uk/law-on-leaving-your-child-home-alone I know a hotel is not home, but how many kids don't have a mobile device with i.c.e numbers in them? Wonder what tipped off someone to call cops?

100 miles or so from home in a hotel room? Not sure about that. But if it came to the attention of a member of staff a minor was left alone in one of their rooms I don't suppose they have much choice. Who else do they call?

Not really sure what the milage has to do with it, the parent wasn't 100 miles away. As someone above says, there's got to be more to it. He's not a young minor, as I said he's 2 years from being a teen. I'm not a parent but on the face of it I wouldn't have thought an 11 year old in a hotel room by himself would be too much of a problem.

I think this is the real issue. If it had been at home, familiar surroundings with a support network around then that's one thing, but this? Will have to see what Ms Coastal says, she's quite involved in this stuff.

Probably got a bit suspicious by the sudden upturn in room service requests. And the variety of the orders. Different beers with strawberry milkshakes, cheeseburgers with chips and jelly and porn movies.

I wouldn't expect you for one moment to just agree. That would be too easy. Ok, the mileage is completely irrelevant if you like, along with a pissed up father who could be anywhere in any sort of trouble. Of course it's relevant if you're not in familiar surroundings and the parent responsible is nowhere to be seen.

Of course that was only a matter of time. Not really a suitable comment or relevant. The amount of people who seem to revel in that child's disappearance is disturbing.

The parent was getting licked somewhere in Manchester, one presumes. If there's a fire alarm, then that kid is out in the carpark, alone, in the middle of the night, presumably absolutely sh1tscared. It's not a great look.

If that had been my son at the age of 11 he would have chosen the hotel room with TV or moby every time over been dragged out into a strange town to hang out with his dad and a bunch of other pistup people. Prosecuting the father is only going to put strain on that family unit and nobody needs that. Like you say, there must be more to this story.

This is an astounding tweet from last night's game up here on 19:20 - Feb 5 with 3461 views | TractorFrog | It depends on the context. If the dad says to the kid, 'I am going out tonight. Would you mind waiting here on your own for a few hours?' and gives the kid an iPad, then he'll be fine. If the dad just leaves the kid in the hotel on his own and the kid has no idea when his dad will be back or what he's doing, then that's obviously child neglect. It also depends if drinking means just a little or actually getting drunk. [Post edited 5 Feb 2022 19:22]

This is an astounding tweet from last night's game up here on 19:22 - Feb 5 with 3400 views | Swansea_Blue | Hmm. I expect I’ve left at least one of mine in a hotel at or before that age. Certainly in a room on their own, possibly even leaving the hotel. 11 is year 6. I was pretty independent by then, letting myself in home before my folks got home from work. Spending whole days out fishing on the Gipping, etc. Our oldest is was independent at 12. As much as we want to wrap them up in cotton wool, an 11 year old is perfectly capable of sleeping in a hotel room or going to ask reception for something in the extremely unlikely event of a problem. But I can also understand if people take a more protective view - it’s a borderline age these days and very personal.
