Probably do him well to go somewhere he's loved and recuperate a bit, see if he can make a go of it again at a decent level.

His failure here hasn't helped either party has it?

Found his level, innit.

Absolute nonsense... yes, it didn't work out for him here, but he has a proven track record as a manager.. he would have kept Wigan in the championship, had it not been for their points deduction.. to say he's a national league level manager, after his successes elsewhere is just plain wrong..

One positive however is that Badger didn't use Kevin Beatties death to make a 'joke' against Cook - unlike another ex manager - so at least he's moving forward a little bit.

I actually think Cook was worse than Jewell and Lambo.

So do I.

I think only Hurst was worse than Cook as a manager of ITFC.

I don't know what you're referring to there bud, unfortunately for dear old badger, anyone other than Mick Mccarthy, who has since proved to be a busted flush, gets the same dismissive treatment.. purely because they aren't Mick..

Can't be many (if any) managers that have taken over a club second in the league with a game in hand to go top!

Colchester Utd were top when Mike Walker was sacked in the late eighties.

We will however see how influential Leam Richardson was to the successes achieved.

Even that’s a close run thing. Hurst was hopeless in the Championship whereas Cook was hopeless in League One. To have a worse record in League One than Lambert takes some doing.

LOL.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Well, it didn't work out for Cook at ITFC, but you can't question his record elsewhere surely? He's still a proven manager at league 1 and championship level...you revel in manager's failing, as it gives you something to moan about..

What saddens me going forward about the Cook situation is how many of our fans will absolutely relish it when Chesterfield inevitably lose a few games under Cook.

He never did anything to disrespect the club so I wish him well going forward. But there will be plenty who hope he fails. Which is a real shame.

Very poor manager here, but I believe he was trying his best.

(unlike that fool Lambert)

Good luck Cook.

I am not too sure how true that is. Perhaps you are right but I, for one, as delighted as I am that he is no longer our manager, would be very happy to see him succeed (especially at such a lower level). I just trust that if he does, the few on here who seem to still think we shouldn't have sacked him and McKenna has just got lucky with a run of easy games don't start piping up with the idea that it somehow shows he should have stayed.

There are few of our ex-players or managers who I wouldn't want to succeed ... although one may be about to get the Sunderland job!

It was very clear here that he was not anything like good enough. I think the likely cause was that he needed better advice/support around him and the fact that the one he always had elsewhere is doing so well without him would support that argument.

I hope the assistant at Chesterfield is what he needs because he seems a nice enough chap who loves football.

Burley? Because Keane has turned it down. Reportedly.

It's interesting listening to his first interview. Almost like he's joined as a director of football/manager in one. Which probably would be really suitable for him with his preference for being what is known as an old school manager and wanting to be involved in every aspect.

Good luck to him.

Ah, I hadn't read that bit. That would explain why it was taking them so long getting him in. It was (clearly) him I was referring to. If MM got it I would be conflicted because I like MM but I am none too keen on Sunderland going up (quite possibly at our expense) unless it makes League 1 more straightforward for us next season.

Burley I would assume is as likely as Jewell, Mills or Royle!

I get all that, but let's have it right, Leam Richardson was Cook's assistant, someone he was able to work with and bounce ideas off etc. Cook was the main man and ultimately the manager, think it's too easy to say it failed here because Richardson wasn't in the dugout with him

We will find out.

You are right about the bouncing ideas off leam. For example when we were 1-0 I think it was Cheltenham and we were under under the cosh especially their long throw..
We took off Pigott.. would leam have stopped PC doing that. Then we may not have conceded within minutes of pig going off following a long throw.. they are the situations I think PC missed leam. And we had many changes in games that followed that didn't make sense at the time.
