Why are we still eating meat all things considered? on 13:33 - Mar 13 by monytowbray | There are plenty of viable dairy and meat replacements out there now though. And I say that as someone who loved cheese and hasn’t had to give it up. |
There are lots of alternatives yes, but I don't like any of them! Mrs Dub is vegan so I do try them - I can't be doing with oat milk (various versions of) other than in porridge (which sort of makes sense!). As for vegan cheeses........ As it happens I don't eat much cheese so that's not a huge impact from me. Vegan 'meat' is definitely improving though, that I'll grant you. I make no excuses for my personal choice, and I won't try and defend them either, I just prefer what I eat. Probably making a bean and lentil chilli for dinner today though, so go me!

So you tried to get me on the car and had to move the goal posts to having a pop at, wait *checks notes* USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT. Ffs. Everything we do leaves a footprint. It’s about synergy with the planet.

Love a chilli. Beans for me though all the way. I keep meaning to do a spreadsheet for new vegans to check out but forgetting. A cheese list will be on it.

And would anyone like to post the data that shows what this % is in emmissions vs meat (or even plant food production)?! Sounds big on paper because you’d assume air travel is very VERY bad, until you look at the reality and data.

Yet you came piling in here to have a pop at diesel/petrol and an assumed opportunity to be holier than thou over an electric car! Brilliant. I’m not preaching. Why won’t you discuss the actual OP about pandemics and meat which was the point? I didn’t bring environmental footprints into this.

Why are we still eating meat all things considered? on 14:12 - Mar 13 with 1056 views | mutters | The sad thing about these types of conversation these days is that there is no middle ground anymore. You're either on one side or another. Brexit has a lot to answer for in that regards for driving people into their silos. I am not vegan, I eat meat a few times a week however i know a number of committed vegans who's carbon footprint is massive compared to mine. From that side I am "winning' however I lose the animal cruelty arguement by quite a margin. It's a many facated argument All honestly depends on your perspective and how passionate you are about things. I always try to respect others points of view but sometimes people don't. This is what rubs people up the wrong way. If you want people to accept your point of view then you need to share the same courtesy.

Why are we still eating meat all things considered? on 14:47 - Mar 13 with 948 views | Swailsey | I am vegetarian, I would like to be vegan, but haven’t been able to. I am hypocritical and I own that. Being honest, most people who claim to care about the environment and animals but who still eat meat are hypocritical too. That doesn’t make them the devil incarnate, but they should own it. I am aware there are some genuine exceptions of people who have to eat meat. Ultimately, in terms of raw facts, it is kinder and better and (for a lot of people) a viable option to not eat meat. They just don’t - for a variety of reasons. Just own it and try and do a little better each day. Or don’t, but accept that really, in 2022, it is a tough thing to justify just ‘wanting to’. [Post edited 13 Mar 2022 14:52]

i didn't suggest that it is more than meat - just that it is very significant (about 4% of total emissions). for someone like you who likes things to be black and white surely internet use = carbon emissions = global warming = bad.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

The criminals are the corporations raising your prices. I’ve never charged anyone to get on a train, let alone inflated that cost to make a handful of greedy people rich. Train was going where it was going anyway. I’m a dot that didn’t register. You are being conned by power. Not sure what this has to do with the thread mind you.

Well, you are comparing something much worse that needs to end to save the planet, with something not as bad and that could be managed easily within a greener eco system. The grey area was the one you invented to connect these dots incorrectly. Beyond that, please do elaborate what you are (or are not) suggesting because in context I think I’ve got it quite nailed on in the above. [Post edited 13 Mar 2022 15:19]
