Plus a team escaping relegation on well under 40 points. [Post edited 28 Mar 2022 21:54]

Try and comfort yourself with it being a success for Liam Manning with his Ipswich connections - that's what I will have to do. And, should they fail in the play offs, Rotherham not yo-yoing in for once would be something different.

Guthrum's Estimated Final Table on 22:45 - Mar 28 with 2011 views | itfcsuth | That sees us miss out by 7 points. KM, staff & players have developed in to a terrific side, and we’ve seen how good our form has been since KM took charge. To miss out by 7 points just shines the light greater how poor the start to the season was.

If the estimated table ends up accurate McKenna would have gained just three points on sixth place from when he took over (we were ten points behind at that point), which is ridiculous considering our final record under him is projected, by this table, to be P23 W14 D5 L4 PTS47 - an average of 2.04 points a game.

I don't think it does, as 76 would see us recover to a playoff position in most other years. I think it highlights how well the top 6 or so teams have done in comparison to previous years

We are not as good as some people seem to think we are. When we smashed Wycombe 4-1 away, and Pompey 4-1 away, that is how a promotion winning side performs, but of course they do it week in, week out. When you have a promotion winning side, you brush aside every opponent with ease. You enter each game not doubting for one second whether you will win, it is all about by how many you will win by. We are not that team yet. The next evolution of this team is to add the ability to score more goals. The balls are now coming across the face of the goal 2 or 3 times a match, but all too often there is no-one on the end of it. We have failed to score from corners or free kicks pretty much all season. We rarely score from outside the box too, or in the air. Our whole attacking play, whilst attractive at times, does not yield enough goals. That is why we are not going up this season.

Pretty logical.... if the top teams are getting more points, the bottom teams will be getting less.

Not strictly true. Last season, 8 out of champions Hull's 27 League wins were by a margin greater than two goals, or 29.6%. This season, 5 of our 17 wins were by 2+ goals - 29.4%. Pretty much identical. The key difference is actually that Hull won 56% of their matches, by hook or by crook, whereas we have only managed 42% overall.

All round highlights what a ridiculous season this has been, with much greater than normal disparity between top and bottom teams. Or, I suspect, those who have coped better or worse with the knock-on effects of the Pandemic.
