Oxford's remaining fixtures on 12:19 - Mar 29 by Illinoisblue | The flip side of that, though, is that we’re not scoring enough. Six wins out of six is hard when goals are hard to come by. I would certainly settle for six 1-0 wins! |
You'd rather have that base to build from though than being involved in end to end basketball games every week.

7 wins on the bounce it would be, given we won Saturday. Would be some achievement, especially games including the top 2, and with Shrewsbury away who are no mugs and in good form themselves. If we're sat on 70 points with 4 games to play, we will have a sniff. Had someone offered you that when KM came in you would've snapped their hands off. Still, 1 game at a time. Lets beat Cambridge, we owe them for what happened at their place, I'm still annoyed about that.

it would be the final straw, and end of the curse that we've been under for so long

we litterally need 1 goal a game to win it. with burns, chaplin, celina, etc in the squad.... the chances we create, im 99.9999% sure we'll get a goal per game

It is an amazing defensive record, the number of clean sheets - ridiculous! Before we get ahead of ourselves, just want to mention Shrewsbury, they have only conceded 8 goals since January which highlights to me they are going to be tough nut to crack.

Oxford's remaining fixtures on 11:35 - Mar 29 by clive_baker | Oh no, of course not. And supposing we finish on 75 points this season which is 11 points from our next 6 games, which feels realistic (and is actually a lower PPG than we've averaged under KM thus far), then it's probably top 2 form over the 2nd half of the season. It's 92 points if you extrapolate it over a season, and that's a full half season which is a big enough sample. It's the first half that's cost us, no doubt about that at all. |
McK has been manager for 17 league games. A form table for last 17 games would show Ipswich in third place. Despite averaging 2 pts a game we are not closing the gap between us and a play off place. This is an exceptional season. Suspect in most season we would now be comfortably in a play off place. I am expecting us to overtake Sunderland and Wycombe but need one from Plymouth, Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday to suffer loss of form. Can’t see it happening but we can’t do anything apart from get as many points as possible in our remaining games.

The fact we’re even in contention is amazing really. However this season ends there’s no doubt the club is finally doing things the right way and on an upward curve. And yes, that Cambridge game still stings. If we’d had Walton in goal we wouldn’t have conceded that late goal.

Oxford's remaining fixtures on 11:28 - Mar 29 by abracaDOBRA_ | If we kept our 2 goal lead against Wimbledon and Cambridge we'd be 2 points off. It's (obviously) the games under Cook that has made this hard. Those 2 games the main ones for me, where we were in a strong position and threw it away |
Or didn't have the Pompey goal disallowed, incorrectly. Or Bonne scored that tap in at Cheltenham, or Fraser scored that penalty at Burton, or we managed to score when battering Cheltenham at home, or Morecambe away, or...................................... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Oxford's remaining fixtures on 11:00 - Mar 29 by SomethingBlue | Wigan can definitely beaten at home. I agree we need a fine run. Five wins will mean it's absolutely 50/50 I suspect; six and we'd definitely do it. Don't think it is worth ruling anything out — we have momentum, big crowds, an excellent team for the level and a few things might start dropping for us now. |
It's worth remembering that Wigan have only lost two games on their travels. No side has lost fewer away. In fact no side has lost fewer than 2 at home...

This weeks update on play off chances... by itfcjoe 27 Mar 2022 21:0275 points - 3W 2D 1L - 1% (No change)
76 points - 4W 2L or 3W 3D - 2-3% (-2%)
77 points - 4W 1D 1L - 9% (-4%)
78 points - 4W 2D - 21% (-8%)
79 points - 5W 1L - 40% (-9%)
80 points - 5W 1D - 63% (-10%)
81 points - N/A
82 points - 6W - 94% (-3%)
So basically despite winning, we are now less likely to make the play offs at each amount of points....

You can see it now, 5 wins getting us all excited for the final game at home against Charlton, for them to score a 91st minute equalizer...

Oxford's remaining fixtures on 14:54 - Mar 29 with 1086 views | Vaughan8 | They still play teams around them which at this time of the season is not a bad thing as it puts it in your own hands a bit more. I think we need to win 5 of the last 6 to stand a chance, especially as a lot of teams have a game in hand. Can we do it, yes. WIll we? probably not. I just feel we can't convert our chances which will make us draw/lose a few.

I’d be seeing a way to get both Chaplin and Celina in the team from now on. Whoever plays striker will be a bit more hit and miss anyway based on the season so far, but these two look the sharpest inside and outside the box alongside Burns.

Yep tend to agree, as much as Aluko has been brilliant, the issue is he supplies the passes and then it goes awry from there, with both Celina and Chaplin aiding a striker, we would have more chance of getting goals. Chaplin isn't shy having a go from outside the area, it only takes one of his strikes for the keeper to fumble and then one of Bonne or Norwood to poach from there.

Yeah, I felt I was being harsh on Aluko but I think his value comes more in the build-up play and knitting things together. As such he’s probably more of a complement to the engine room of Morsy and Bakinson than someone who can compensate for strikers that aren’t really firing.

Don't think it's being harsh on Aluko, it's more an indictment of our misfiring strike force. If we had someone on fire then Aluko would be the perfect option, as it is, we would be better served with Chaplin and Celina.

Don't agree. We have been getting better and better every game, and every team in League 1 is now scared of us. We are now the dominant force in this division. Let's just see what happens.
