Qatar world cup truly is bizarre... 13:47 - Apr 1 with 2585 viewsunstableblue

... 1.5million fans will attend, but only 175,000 accommodation rooms in Qatar. UAE/Dubai a 70minute flight away.

Alcohol consumption is prohibited in Qatar. But certain hotels and fan zones will allow alcohol to be served during the tournament. But drinking is not permitted in public spaces. Being drunk though is a serious offence.

Homosexuality is illegal.

There are 8 stadiums built specifically for the tournament. The longest distance between stadiums is 46miles... yes 46miles. The shortest is 3miles, yes 3miles

Bonkers

An absolute joke that a place like that got awarded it.

Money certainly does talk.

Should’ve been in the UK. Infrastructure already in place and would’ve been no need to build new stadiums etc.

Not to mention the 6500 migrant workers who have died during the building programme etc since the world cup was awarded to them

And those that haven't been paid

Shameful corrupt FIFA

Think we all know the reasons behind Qatar winning the bid.

Money ?

Just because they made the decision to award the World Cup 2018 to Putin’s Russia and 2022 to Qatar at the same time doesn’t mean that money was involved. Oh no.

I am considering going still, was investigating accommodation yesterday and it's a real mixed bag. They've made it such that you have to book directly through the WC organisers and can't buy a room until you have a match ticket.

The cruise ships docked by Doha look to be the best place to stay (but probably v expensive).

I honestly can’t think of anything worse than going to that sh1thole to watch what is supposed to be a summer football tournament in November. I’d be quite happy if England had boycotted the whole thing, it’s a disgrace.

yes. Its stuff like this that almost makes me wish the european super league had gone ahead. The more distance between football the International Super Product and regular old L1 football the more I feel like we've got our own little homespun thing going on. Not particularly rational but thats how I feel at least.

I've been to lots of England games. Home, away and tournaments. Large scale disorder at the final was an enormous put off. I don't think I'll go anymore. Couldn't pay me to go to Qatar.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

It does seem that unruly behaviour has crept back into English football in recent years. I'm sure there will be trouble in English cities at some stage during the tournament.

Absolute farce this World Cup was allowed to take place in this country.

Certainly will not be looking to go out there and will save my money for Germany 2024 and USA/Canada/Mexico 2026.

but those idiots who caused the trouble at Euro 2020 won't turn up in Qatar, it will be like the WC in Japan after France 98 and the "battle of Marseille". They only go to games that are easy for them to get to.
