Holy sh1t. Fray Bentos and economy pies, microwaved chips, tinned steak on chips...this might be the most damning thread page in TWTD history.

None of you can ever say a word about me again.

Not sure yet either. But guessing it's also gonna be very potato rich whatever it is.

Our good friend [redacted] just texted a delicious picture of some Chicken and Waffles... I now have some chicken resting in buttermilk in preparation for tomorrow's tea.

Just spoke with Mrs Leitrim, she said her and the daughter making burritos. No potato involved, but I'm always happy with burritos. I consider it a result!

In Leitrim everything tends to have potato in it or a side portion of potato. But I've been assured today's burritos are potato free. She knows burrito stuff and she's cooking. So would be foolish of me to demand the addition of potato

In my youth, when I worked in a chip shop, used to like for breakfast microwaved chips from the previous night, in buttered white bread with mayonnaise.

Had a burrito from Tortilla on Sunday. Large with double chicken, extra hot sauce, tomato rice, black beans, guacamole and lettuce.

So good.

I'm more concerned at the number of people who've voted chips.

They have no place on a breakfast plate.

Quite frankly it's a disgrace.

I would say Bubble and Squeak but IMHO it should be a full dish of it and not just a side.

I tend to cook it as a whole breakfast dish with all the leftover veg from a roast lunch including of course roast potatoes.

Importantly the contents should be roughly chopped and certainly not blitzed and absolutely must include sprouts.

If it is the leftover remnants from a chicken roast I might even add some stuffing — but no meat.

You are, your Lordship, right on the money as always.

Tried bubble and squeak but only had mash potato.
Fried mash potato, with burnt bits, is the best and you haven't got all that nasty sprouts and peas to spoil it.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

No, not really, but I would refry the roasties and add to an english breakfast. I wouldn't put roasties in a sandwich.

Leftover boiled potatoes, sliced and fried is lovely.

Never throw out leftover potatoes.

But how are they 'leftover'? What qualifies them as that?

Surely what you've described there is boiled potatoes, thinly sliced and fried, which is great.

I too like sauteed potatoes, first boiled then cooled for slicing.

But as for whether they're boiled the day or on the same day? Is there some relevance that makes them 'leftover' as opposed to pre-prepared?

I hate the term leftovers, it makes it sound as though they've been scraped off someone's plate.

Completely agree with every single word here, in fact could have written it myself.

If Carlsberg did bubble and squeak....

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Ah! Of course!

I had also thought potato waffles may have been on some heathen's plates. So another omission.

Bubble and Squeak - very acceptable
Roesti - if you happen to be in Switzerland. You will note the additional ‘e’ in the absence of the umlaut

However the true and compliant traditional English breakfast would feature correctly prepared (i.e. cooked in a pan, not deep fried) Sauté potatoes

When coated with the yolk of a perfectly fried egg, they’re a thing of beauty.

Sure did - Just don’t know how to get the umlaut on the keyboard!

Not an expert on German grammar by any means but I have seen this substituted with an ‘e’ previously.

I am an expert on the preparation of Roesti though!
