Derby fan here asking what to expect in League One 13:04 - Jul 8 with 12687 views | MellyMel55 | So what's it like in League One ? I've heard rumours of shocking referees and horrendous time wasting but just wanted the thoughts from fans of a similar sized recent Championship club ? Quality of football, treatment from other teams fans etc. All the best

Derby fan here asking what to expect in League One on 13:37 - Jul 8 by BigCommon | It's the birthplace of sh1thousery and poor refereeing ... You have to accept that some teams are on a really low budget and will just do what they can to grind out points... The standard is probably higher than people expect (top end sides).. It's not a cake walk for veteran players these days. And any lightweight players can get bullied.. Our recruitment has been centered on more robust players this window...It's a long grind. Squad depth will see you through, more so than 4 or 5 decent players....Don't expect to just turn teams over. If you scrape a 1-0 against a "lesser side", well, 3pts is 3pts and move on...Your fan base will help. But you'll find some teams will raise it in front of your bigger home crowds.. You will get some teams that want to play football. But be prepared for some frustrating games, where they just park the bus and roll around.... Best of luck to you... |
Good point on squad depth and robust players... KVY, Evans, Edwards, Jackson, Edmundson to name but a few were some pretty key players to lose for long periods....

Derby fan here asking what to expect in League One on 13:48 - Jul 8 with 1536 views | Metal_Hacker | Simple really with hindsight - go in with low expectations from a footballing and officiating perspective and you won't be disappointed Not a massive difference between the Championship and League One in terms of officiating ,it just gets punished and highlighted less in the press and post-match I think personally Good luck for the season and I hope you finish below us along with Wednesday , MK Dons,Barnsley,Peterborough,Portsmouth and Wycombe

Yes we had an amazing run of form under McKenna that dropped away due to striker form and injury But we didn't even dent the top 6.. we were miles off... teams like Wycombe, Sunderland, MK, Wigan.. then Bolton just were on such good form I'm not sure I see that happening again.. but Ipswich HAVE TO start strong and early.. and just keep the momentum... its a frickin marathon. What's you current starting 11 do you think? how may are new? and are they up for a fight? thanks

Last season was a bit of a strange one, there was a 9 point gap between 11th and 12th and 42 points saw Morecambe finish 19th. The most annoying team last season was Accrington Stanley, who'll be direct, physical and cynical, but are also tremendous whingers who dive, play-act and complain. Wycombe and Cambridge were probably the most effective teams we saw in terms of direct football.

Potentially looking in the mirror might answer that last question given some of the characters you're signing :) Wycombe, Lincoln, Oxford, Fleetwood are all sides on the sh1thousery side of the game. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Lots of clubs inventing reasons for you to be their rivals, cup final or some sort of big time Charlies. Still championship, league 1, I’d support this club in the conference so doesn’t really make any odds. Don’t think we’ll be back though.

Derby fan here asking what to expect in League One on 13:36 - Jul 8 by MellyMel55 | Yeah, new signings seem good but we've still only got about 14 players despite those signings. Knight I think will be sold, Sibley will stay but I'm also worried about our midfielder Krystian Bielik. He plays for Poland and expects to be in the World Cup but his international manager has said that it's no good him playing in the 3rd division We also lost our leftback to Werder Bremen last week for free cause his agent used some TUPE law about new ownership means cancelled contract, or something This will probably be a transition season for us but you never know |
To be a touch more positive than my first post for a second though, there is some novelty in being in L1 at least. We were in the Championship since about 400bc so the opportunity to go to other grounds, play different opposition etc was welcome for a year or 2 IMO. Cheaper tickets (in theory, although rarely in reality), more likely to blood academy lads (in theory, again in our case not really seen enough of it), and at the end of the day its only football, it's not that serious. It's a journey rather than a destination innit. We all want to be in the Champions league I guess, but seasons like these will help you appreciate the good times. And the thought of playing Championship games against bloody Reading again any time soon doesn't really have any greater appeal if truth be known.

New owner is worth about £ 250m - £300m. He's a season ticket holder who just happens to be wealthy. Probably didn't want to buy the club but it all got very desperate with Mike Ashley & some Americans waiting to pick at the carcass but not actually doing anything Season Tickets only went on sale 2 days ago due to administration - sold about 10,000 so far, probably end up around 20,000 Rooney ? Not sure about resentment, think we couldn't believe that he hung around when he was getting dumped on month after month Taxes. The new owner is rumoured to have paid more than he needed to & the minimum was 25p in the £ to creditors. 100% of football debts have to be paid. Don't know if a deal was done with HMRC or not but assume they get at least 25% - anyway, see Mel bloody Morris for that invoice

Current starting 11. It's our first pre season game at Bradford tomorrow. You know how in early pre season games you play 11 players till half time and then swap them for another 11 for the 2nd half, well we'll be packing our bags at half time !! [Post edited 8 Jul 2022 14:16]

Alas you need a lot more money than £250m to make a club of your scale a success... unless you put in an incredible CEO and footballing structure... a la Brentford.

Yes, we've got plenty of Twitter goons thinking we'll be doing that. More reasonable Derby fans know different. We've made some decent signings but : We have a rookie manager We can't pay any transfer fees, hence why we're getting older players on 1 or 2 year deals We're under an EFL agreed business plan which we cannot exceed We can't pay loan fees or fees to agents Our academy has been brilliant but the last 9 months has been mugged by Premiership & European clubs - for little or no fees We need to be realistic & most are

Depends what you're commenting on. 1 camera or sitting there. You can still tell when a side is parking the bus and still see when a side celebrates a draw like a win. You can also tell when teams are time-wasting as if a player goes down and stops the game funnily enough the same happens online.

Derby fan here asking what to expect in League One on 14:32 - Jul 8 with 1300 views | geg1992 | It's awful. Every team treats you like a cup final so put in that extra bit of effort. Referees are terrible, you will experience some crazy decisions. Soo much play acting, time wasting etc. bad pitches at some grounds, especially in the winter. Really hinders playing good football. Really need to have players suited to the league, rather than just technically good players. We found this out last season. It seems our manager now is really buying players for this league as well as the future.

It's a bloody tough league to get out of. I can see what Derby are doing and it seems sensible. You've added some experienced heads with quality that's above League One. Players that can be physical too and mix it up which is essential. What you now need is to ensure you've got energy around them and players that belong in League One. You need a bit of everything. It's no good having a team down here that's too good for the division if you've not got players prepared to roll their sleeves up to get out of the division. You need quality, pace, power and guile and players who can mix it up. You'll have weeks when you'll stuff Burton 4-0 and blow them away and then you'll have weeks when you'll get housed by Accrington nicking a goal and rolling around for 90 minutes and the refs won't help you. You'll also be every teams cup final so when your side isn't 100% at it, you're in big trouble. You also have to ignore any decent start. We came down and won 8 and drew 3 of our first 11 and then ended up miles off the playoffs. Teams were scared of us and once they realised we weren't all that we struggled. You'll face the same most likely. Your boys will be up for it to start with, but the big test is when you go 2 or 3 defeats in a row or matches without a win. That's when you'll see if you've got what it takes.
