We’re already giving game time to a Premier League youngster who we’ll send back on the summer; if we can’t sign Hirst permanently I hope we move on to other, permanent, targets. It’s nice only having one loanee in the squad.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

There’s still question marks over McKenna’s ability in the transfer market though. Last season’s additions were mediocre if not below average and it’s a little too early to tell on this season’s influx.

Christ alive. You must have been GUTTED at 5 Saturday afternoon.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It’s becoming a really boring protracted saga for a player who commands no hype or excitement. Is anyone really that interested in this signing which, by all accounts, is becoming increasingly expensive. Chasing business like this feels very at odds with how signings over the last 12 - 14 months have been bar Celina. We even gave up on Bradley when he signed a new contract so why chase Hirst?

I completely agree. If this happens there may be a story to tell which will sound better but it has all the right football rationale but looks increasingly likely the cultural fit will not be there for ITFC between him and his advisors. With a squad we are building culture is a key part of the footballer profile, if any amount of this is about him and his Agent playing for the best deal we question his football decision making because on paper his preseason prep has been very poor for a top rated talent.

Who did McKenna bring in then you have question marks over?

Bakinson (loan) - did OK got better over time
Thompson (loan) - probably didn't go so well

Who else arrived in Jan? How the hell you can judge him based on that I don't know. I think Harness, David and Ladapo all showed McKenna seems to have a good idea

It's just silly to suggest Cook signed 20 random players. He signed players we needed, very good players some of them who are still amongst our best now.

Cook signed good players yes, but he should have been signing a team. Had he done so he might still be here.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

You just answered your own question. Given how ineffective Thompson was going forward and how inconsistent Bakinson was, of course KM can and should be judged on that. I also acknowledged it’s too early for us to tell based on this season’s signings so there are still question marks.

Er…I said “too early to tell” and you’re citing one game. Nobody was overly happy with Thompson or Bakinson, I think that’s widely acknowledged too.

oh OK, I think I will defer judgement thanks no way am I questioning KM over Jan transfer activities. I wonder after only being in the job days before the Jan transfer window and not knowing the players I do wonder what you expected him to do, another 10 players in that need to gel again. I am sure after the instability of the summer he was told to stabilise. He got in a couple he thought would be good both from higher leagues. Thompson came with a better reputation than his performances and guess what he is with a team in a league above now.

I think you should stop for a moment and consider how fortunate we are with KM.

It’s OK to have an objective view point and reserve judgement. You don’t have to be for or against in every post you write. You’ll do well to learn that on here. It may make for better reading and less argument too.

I can't believe at 23 he is likely to break through at Leicester, so I assume it will be down to his ambition and wanting to play every week with a permanent club, not a continual loanee.

I don't either. I think the offer of a contract is probably a bargaining move to try to give the impression they want to keep him. Really wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't get signed and he moves on. Am thinking it's looking less likely that it would be us now though.

Absolutely and my view point is its way too early to be able to question KM in the transfer market. Not trying to argue that's my opinion. It just seems as a fanbase we are collectively looking for the negatives rather than enjoying we have a great manager who may have weaknesses which is why he is L1 learning his trade.

I am glad you think your posts are a good read though.

It's mainly the 11 in his last 15 starts that has everyone interested really.

They're all hoping that he's suddenly stepped it up and hit another level, as young players sometimes do.

Goals: 12
Assists: 3

Just saying...plus Bonne had some horrible off field issues

The year before , while on loan at Rotherham, he only started a handful of games being used mainly from the bench and didn’t score any goals.

Equally, doing it for the first time aged 22/23 when you're a former England U20 star, probably hits a little different for recruitment teams than doing it at 25/26 in your 9th season of men's football.

That's common as younger players start out their careers

We don’t have a “great” manager though. We have a promising manager who has made a good start to his managerial career. Here in lies the difference in our rhetoric.

I'm not against Bonne joining, and put his stats in another thread. I just want people to be aware of player stats when quoting them and 15 in 46 didn't seem accurate to me.

Bonne's were 18.03 and 22.53 respectively.

No, I'm just taking the goals and assists over the minutes they play and standardising that over a season, if they were to play 90mins over a 46 games.

If someone links the xA and xG from last season, I can do that and post them here or send you a DM.

thanks for the stats and explanation - no need to do any more work on my account - personally I'd like to see Hirst here but only for the right price - he has a higher ceiling than Bonne for sure
