I think it's sad how badly this move will go down with the fanbase and feel sorry for Bonne if he were to be reading any of it.
There are plenty of people who don't think he'd be a good fit footballing wise, and I include myself in that, but some of the stuff read on social media about him makes it sound like we are trying to sign back Adam Proudlock or Gerry Creaney, not a guy who has scored a good number of goals at this level and the level above that had a barren patch here |  |

I do think there's a lot of validity in this. I don't think we're in a situation where the hierarchy bring on players for the sake of it. If McKenna thinks he's the best available option to contribute, so be it. Although it seems a little disappointing that we've got to 30th August and Ladapo is currently our only attacking addition.
My fear is that Ladapo, Bonne and Jackson all lack the guile and finesse to play the number 9 role in the way McKenna's system needs. In fact, of all the strikers on our books I would have said Pigott had the better attributes to link play and bring our tens into the game. | | | |

Football fans are so fickle. I didn't see anyone moaning when he was scoring for fun at the beginning of last season. Some great goals too.
McKenna likes him. Bonne seemed positive about their meeting at end of season (see below).

“We sat down at the training ground with a coffee and had a good chat. He said he likes me, sees me as a hybrid forward that can do a bit of everything and that Ipswich Town is not a closed book.

I don’t see it Joe, folks are ritually muted, blocked and disengaged where there is no substance to their comments! It’s non contributing, it’s noise.
Bonne can suit, if KMcK feels he has something to offer. He is a bit different to what we have, he has scored goals at L1 level, we know he fits the culture therefore he ticks boxes. Whether there is someone better, whom is available, and whom also ticks boxes remains to be seen! [Post edited 30 Aug 2022 17:34]

I love Bonne, I really do - but I wouldn’t want him back, just did not fit our style/system under KMc.

I would welcome him back, had a great start last year and the goals dried up due to personal issues and the fact we stopped creating chances under Kmac, we are now creating the chances, he could easily get 15-20 in this league which would see us home I would think. |  |

McKenna's plan was to get as many signings into the building early doors, pre season.
I can only assume that Bonne was not very high on the agender. Or he'd have been here weeks ago..
It would look a bit "last resort" imo. If Bonne turned up. And would represent a failure to sign original targets, for me.
I'm not sure how it would affect the dressing room either. Which seems , very much a unit atm. With no one player in the spot light. Bonne would, no doubt, get a lot of attention.
Plus the fact that our captain called him out, for missing some decent chances during our run in last season. It just wouldn't feel right to me.
Players like Morsy have probably been told that we will be improving areas of the pitch that we struggled with last season, under KM. (I'm assuming?). Morsy also gave positive tweets on the Ladapo signing. Maybe I'm reading too much into things?
I'm not from Ipswich. I don't know Bonne , or his family and friends. So I don't feel the need to tread on eggshells when discussing him.

I think I was of the view he didn't perhaps fit McKenna's system but decided to take a look at all the goals he scored for us last season. Several came from cut backs by Wes Burns or equivalent from the inside left channel. Presume Wes would provide those still and Leif a few beside. A couple came from through balls from Celina etc, I'm sure Harkness and Aluko could provide. A great goal from a long switched pass (KVY) think Lee Evans there, a couple of headed goals from deep crosses/corners, hopefully we have improved there and one from harrying the goalkeeper. Having watched the clips I'm not so sure now that Bonne would not thrive in the current team. | | | |
