Game will almost certainly be replayed midweek.
We (my son and I) more than likely won't be able to make that and I've already only made one home game this season, so losing money on my season ticket fast, although that's my decision to gamble on fixture list.
We get the train.
We go to the pub
We go to the little convenience store to get our traditional wine gums to munch on during the game
We get a hot dog or burger at the stand outside
We train home
Week day games aren't as well attended, so it does affect businesses negatively.
Any business suffers as a result of unplanned shut downs.
I thought the Queen was ace, but this just isn't right IMO, especially when all else cracks on as normal.
Now for the funeral...in 10+ days time, yeah...cancel stuff, but not at 24 hours notice, utter lunacy and ill thought out. |  | | |

No-one's suggesting it's going to ruin anyone's life. It's put a big spanner into my weekend though. After a stressful house move and not seeing mates for a while, I was really looking forward to the footy. The thing about the weather is you can't do anything about that. You can this. And to me, football has no relation to the monarchy.
Cancelling stuff because of a global pandemic makes perfect sense. Doing so because an old lady I didn't know died makes no sense to me. |

I don't know what other matches we're due to be played this weekend but I think some of it will be down to policing. I should imagine they need a much bigger police presence in London as a lot of people will be traveling there this weekend.
There would have been sending offs in numerous games, var arguments and trouble between fans.
There is no way we would have got through pre match, the game and then post match with no trouble. If fans can't behave themselves against Barnsley there is no way they would behave against a (sort of) local rival. Fighting between fans is no way to show any kind of respect to the queen. There might have been other games that could have been red flags for behaviour and police are needed elsewhere. | | | |

Govt. left it to the organisations to make a business decision, and football's reputation here is somewhat in the mud after the Euros fiasco. If social media is flooded with videos of young fans (who likely don't give a flying one about the monarchy) disregarding minutes silence, being drunk / violent, it's not a great look for the brand.

So according to you reasons every game then has to be postponed during the mourning period before the funeral.
If that happens what a mess. The EFL will lose 3 games.
I actually think there would be no issue at all. Most people respect what's happened and there would be enough about to pull anyone into line who is acting a knob.

I also suspect this is true.
Imagine the frothing if Liverpool fans reacted to the national anthem in the way they have done recently. I can imagine the football hierarchy wouldn't want to have to try and explain those optics to this government in particular.

Biggest regret for me is the postponement of sporting events this weekend has robbed fans of coming together to pay their combined respect to our much loved Queen in the way that West Ham fans did the other night . Maybe a 3.15 KO with minutes silence than a minutes applause or whatever was deemed appropriate . For me a very poor decision as i am sure her majesty would not have wanted it . |  | | |

Well following non league as you might expect, a fair share would go into the much needed fund pot of the host side, i'd venture to a pub nearby, probably a newsagents to grab a fresh vape juice, newspaper. etc, catch an early kick off and go into a local shop to pick up anything the wife wants before i get home to watch i follow, . It varies of course depending on my weekend plans and how i choose to do it. But hope that answers your question.
And also to note, there is a family business of ours which is in prime street location for weekend football, on a saturday, it takes a full weeks income in 1 day which starts the moment it opens and parents begin to take their kids to their morning football matches.. So yes, missing a massive amount of finances this weekend.

This 'lack of respect' thing people throw around is pathetic. Frimmers is a bit of a chief, sure, but nothing in his post here is disrespectful.

Her Maj wouldn't have wanted footy or anything else to be cancelled. It's a typically cowardly decision by the football authorities.
