I see what you are saying. I would point out the matches are not cancelled but postponed - they will still go ahead - so in terms of 'losses' they aren't as such - just that income coming at a later date. |

I don't really agree with the decision but in the grand scheme of things it's one weekend / one game where people will be affected with it balancing itself out when the game is actually played with those losing out gaining as a consequence
What I don't like is the option being taken away from us as individuals
Sport could've displayed it's gratitude thousands of times over during differing events , now the weekend will be silent

It’s a postponement, not a cancellation, the game will be played and people will be able to earn money (if that’s your priority and concern) on the alternative date. Perhaps not as much as on the original date for some but I think there is a lot of overreacting to a collective mark of respect for a once in a generation event based (if people were really honest with themselves) over have to wait a bit longer for a game of football.

I appreciate that this is a once in a lifetime monumental event but...I think this is so short sighted. An ideal opportunity for a nation to come together and pay respects amongst others. You cant do that at home or in the street any where near as good as stood shoulder to shoulder with 27,000 others.
The fact that the official mourning advice did not state it was obligatory to postpone just makes this sadder reading.
I was looking forward to seeing a packed PR observe a silence and no doubt a fantastic rendition of the National Anthem to follow. |  |

No-one's suggesting it's going to ruin anyone's life. It's put a big spanner into my weekend though. After a stressful house move and not seeing mates for a while, I was really looking forward to the footy. The thing about the weather is you can't do anything about that. You can this. And to me, football has no relation to the monarchy.
Cancelling stuff because of a global pandemic makes perfect sense. Doing so because an old lady I didn't know died makes no sense to me. | |

I disagree with this decision, especially given that West Ham went ahead on the actual day of her death.
The St Leger has been shunted to Sunday and there's now an incredible day's racing (the cream of Friday and Saturday rolled into one), but we don't have that luxury in football. Come to think of it, I'm not really sure why not. Doncaster races hosts 25,000 fans - why can't football organise itself as nimbly and just move it to Sunday? Why is football off on Sunday anyway when other sports are not?
They've badly misjudged the mood of the nation I believe, and I say that as someone broadly in favour of the monarchy and utterly respectful of HM The Queen. |
Particularly since the Royal Mail & Railway unions have said they're going *back* to work, & *not* going ahead with the strikes they had planned, as a mark of respect to the late Her Maj., & to help the UK stay connected in the circumstances! |  |
