Feel sorry for all those casual workers wanting wages this week and small businesses who rely on matchday income.

All for paying respects etc. But should have been done with a minute silence etc not by cancelling the weekend.

Well following non league as you might expect, a fair share would go into the much needed fund pot of the host side, i'd venture to a pub nearby, probably a newsagents to grab a fresh vape juice, newspaper. etc, catch an early kick off and go into a local shop to pick up anything the wife wants before i get home to watch i follow, . It varies of course depending on my weekend plans and how i choose to do it. But hope that answers your question.

And also to note, there is a family business of ours which is in prime street location for weekend football, on a saturday, it takes a full weeks income in 1 day which starts the moment it opens and parents begin to take their kids to their morning football matches.. So yes, missing a massive amount of finances this weekend.

“This weekend”, not indefinitely. The game has been postponed, not cancelled. A full weekend’s programme like this will be rearranged for another weekend I expect so that income will be recouped at a later date. Much ado this thread.

I’m as disappointed as anyone to the extent I watched Gimcheon Sangmu FC vs Jeju United during the early hours this morning to get a football fix! Bayern vs Stuttgart or Napoli vs Spezia later.

As many other have already said, the game will now likely be midweek - and less well attended.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

As explained before, having a game another day and time won't in the majority of cases bring the same level of income that today would have expected. Don't know if you're purposely ignoring that though.

In our personal situation,it's 100% lost income as the business won't be open and can't be open when the game is re-arranged for an evening kick off.

I think this is far more about the reputation of the game and the optics of a weekend of 'business as usual' behaviour by certain minorities of fans during a period of national mourning.

Govt. left it to the organisations to make a business decision, and football's reputation here is somewhat in the mud after the Euros fiasco. If social media is flooded with videos of young fans (who likely don't give a flying one about the monarchy) disregarding minutes silence, being drunk / violent, it's not a great look for the brand.

Disappointed as this would've been my first game at PR this season & I've already travelled. I was bringing my mum who hasn't seen a game live since we were humped 0-6 by Liverpool. Plan find a decent pub instead!

The mental health aspect of things is usually trotted out right about now, but I'm surprised to see it hasn't been mentioned this time around (at least, not much).

I mentioned on another thread that I've had a pretty crap week this week; I'm normally one who rolls their eyes at mention of mental health, but it really would have benefited me this weekend to get away from everything at the football.

True and, whilst I agree with Frimley’s opening and subsequent posts here, I can understand why the football authorities may have been concerned from an optics point of view.

Not seen it mentioned elsewhere but with Prince William being the president of the FA would this have had any impact on the decision? They may have taken his guidance on this which makes sense and i think is justifiable. I also think this will bump tv viewing figures of what is currently going on which can be seen as a showing of support for the Queen and new King.

That’s a good point though, after the death of my father, having a match the next day actually helped with the loss. Served as a light distraction as well as being a reminder of something we enjoyed going to together. The reason I am a Town fan is down to him.

So according to you reasons every game then has to be postponed during the mourning period before the funeral.

If that happens what a mess. The EFL will lose 3 games.

I actually think there would be no issue at all. Most people respect what's happened and there would be enough about to pull anyone into line who is acting a knob.

I just think its a badly misjudged decision personally

Probably worded badly in my original post, as the postponements have already been set out as 9 - 11th September. Obviously when decisions were being made we're talking immediately after the fact, when emotions will still be very high.

It would only take 1 issue at a Premier League ground and it's the topic of discussion on Match of the Day with circa 20 million viewers. While I agree you could deal with isolated drunken tw*ts, you also have to think there are also vocal, organised groups of fans that align with anti-monarchism.

As others have mentioned since, William holding a position with the FA may well have been a factor too.

The grassroots decision is laughable, though.
