I absolutely agree with you, but you can see that a lot of those people are struggling with whether or not they should do so. A part of them knows it's not right. The pull of the technology and social media driven ego-feeding frenzy has really f***ed us up, I think, and stolen our souls.

But the really savvy ones have their phones away and aren't obstructing the view of their face for the professional camera operators nd photographers across the street. One appropriate sympathetic, sad nod and they will be repeated on news channels around the world for the next week, and in documentaries for decades.

It’s a world where being seen to be grieving is more valuable than grieving itself.
Ex used to take photos all the time despite no mobile phones back in the day, & always saw things through the lens of his camera. I always felt that was somehow wrong, and that you didn't really experience anything truly & properly, just wasn't somehow real, live, then & there if it was always through that "third eye" distraction.
Turned out to be quite prescient when we split up & he kept all the photos of our trip to the USA! I still have the lovely Peterbilt trucks, the Great Divide point & the Grand Canyon images fresh in my mind.

Particularly considering how much Covid is still around, I'm amazed he agreed, or was allowed by his security staff, to do that - not that there wwas much time, but it must have been discussed beforehand, you'd think.
