Phil's report and comments 10:01 - Sep 26 with 7003 viewsDyland

Can't agree with the fans blaming the ref, he wasn't too bad against one team (relatively).

Morsy booked for a 50/50? Looked like a red to me.

Annoying from Chappers, what a silly place and situation to try and buy a foul. And Edmundsen... Jesus. Frustrating errors/decisions costing us rather than being under the cosh particularly.

Good game though and fair play to the Pilgrim scorers, cracking strikes. We didn't have our shooting boots on. We will come back fine.

Agree with Blooters re subs. Easy to forget how green KmC is though... he'll be learning from all this (presumably).

….take off the blue specs and put on the real ones!

I take your point re the first view of the Morsy foul, but on second viewing which VAR would have provided, it was a shocker. He was lucky.

Chaplin couldn’t have been looking for a foul any more if he was holding a placard saying “I’m going to try and make you foul me”. He literally moves away from the direction of the ball and into the Plymouth players path. I’d have booked him for obstruction!

You don’t no nuffink bout football.

Probably the first thing I’ve ever disagreed with you on, clear foul on Chaplin, doesn’t matter if he was looking for it a foul is a foul, we all know it would be given against us if it was the other way round!

Also didn't help that twice in the game Chaplin had a freekick given against him for backing and ducking into a player. Probably explains again why the ref didn't give a freekick.

Hadn't realised that, does perhaps help explain it.

If anything it's a penalty :)

If that was a pen, then so were thousands of others that we were not awarded over the last couple of decades!

I have to say I thought the Morsy booking looked harsh from where I was sitting at the time, just looked like two players colliding as they made a challenge, which I think was how SM saw it from his reaction. I've not actually seen it again and can't find a clip.

Just watched the first goal again and looks a foul on Chaplin to me, is just knocked over as he's getting himself between the player and the ball. Think most refs would have blown up.

you can put your house on it , had it happened at the other end of the pitch, that ref would have given Plymouth a penalty at the drop of a hat.

Seems odd that only Town players got carded yesterday , and not a single Plymouth player did. The two footed tackle by their left back on Doancian was in my view, a straight red. But we do always seem to get "cheap2 yellow cards in games . Is it poor tackling technique do you think ?

I thought it a foul at the time and having watched it since still do.

The ball is in the air and he's looking up then around to see where it might drop and trying to position himself.

The Plymouth cheating moron thuggishly slams into the back of him sending him to the ground and robs us of an extra man to defend for their goal.

In my unbiased opinion.

Hadn't realised that - not a single Plymouth player carded at all? Wow, astonishing. That tackle on Donacien for starters, as you say.

The ref was strange.

Harness got a yellow for a late ankle nip. Yet davis only 1 minute later got taken out by the sideline in the same manner, we got the freekick but no card.
Same with the challenge on donacien altho strangley the ref looked away as the challenge was made for no logical reason at that point.

How many times?

Their equalising goal yesterday was never a foul in a million years.

Every single game you watch you will see a ball played into the channel, the defender will get himself between the ball and the attacking player, with no intention of playing the ball, slow down to initiate contact and then fall to the ground. The ref awards a free kick every single time. Chaplin did the same and suddenly it’s not a free kick?

Sorry to say that sometimes you really do have to wonder about the impartiality and/or mental robustness of refs.

Of course they're not. It's part of the game to put yourself in a position where the opponent fouls you because it's difficult for them to get to the ball.

So deliberately get in the way of someone running towards the ball and wait for them to knock you over (or simply fall over)?

Fair enough if you see the game like that.

No. Standard legitimate block, get deliberately knocked over by opponent, normally a foul would be given & you'd get a free kick. On any part of the pitch.

While Chaplin should have made more attempt for the ball, imagine if the incident was our defender ploughing through their player, that would have been a stonewall penalty, so how it wasn’t given I will never know

Chaplin has no eyes on the ball at all, he's more interested in watching their player and trying to 'win' a foul. Why leave the ref a decision to make, just clear it. My first instinct was that it was a foul, and at the other end I would be screaming penalty... in the cold light of day, and having seen the replays, I think the ref got it right.

Not sure how he's supposed to just clear it, by the time the ball drops as low as head height he's already been bundled over and the opposition player is lying on top of him.

I agree many Ref's would have seen Chaplin's effort to buy a foul as a foul but dont think we have much to complain about as he didn't , i'm not sure why he did not just put his foot through the ball and clear it . I love the fact that at last we have a bit of steel in our midfield now as it has been missing for a while but Sam's tackle was lucky not to be deemed a red miles from the ball and straight into his opponents thigh . The one on Donacian by the Norwich loanee was not much better and was not even seen as a yellow apart from that i thought the Ref did well .

Look where the ball is when the collision happens, "just clear it" wasn't much of an option

You've ignored the part where he could have jumped for the ball tho rather than let it drop whilst backing into the player

How's he supposed to start his jump when the ball is 20 foot in the air?!

The ball is up by the advertising hoarding if you can't see it. He's not Jet Set Willy (reference for the kids). Nothing wrong with physically putting yourself in front of someone as a ball is dropping.

Well had he not looked for the player and bent down looking for the freekick he could have jumped for the ball as it came down.
