https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/314572-2-from-3-already/

Worth a read to hear what Weds fans are thinking.

They’re so right that it’s a long long way to go and Town/Plymouth won’t retain this form

And I’d like to hope they’re correct on Plymouth squad depth means they’ll drop away

Where I think they’re wrong is Towns strength in depth… remember Camara hasn’t even featured yet, and is on the grass this week. Leigh and Aluko will return if slowly.

And again I feel a major January striker addition is on the cards.

Yes one of their posters actually notes that… in that to make up the 5 point gap to Plymouth… it’s not just getting 5 points, it’s probably weeks of results

I think Lincoln and Derby and the pack out PR games are going to be huge… have a really stepped up a gear, can McKenna get the selection right, will be finally win on Sky..

6 points and this is remarkable run… but a wobble will come

Derby game I suspect

The beauty of our start is that we can afford a small drop off. We are on course for 106 points at the moment, which is highly unlikely. However, 2 points per game from here on in takes us to 96 points which will be enough regardless of what anyone else does.

Plymouth fan on there saying he thinks top two will be Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday. Plymouth squad lacks depth in certain positions.

We take 6 points from the next two and I’ll be thinking 100 points!

But I expect a slip up. And managers will start working us out and McKennas new schemes.

But I’m confident he has new schemes!!

I don't see us having any sustained slip up. The last couple of seasons a loss to Plymouth wouldn't be backed up by 3 wins in a week. We aren't going to go 3/4 games without a win, it just won't happen.

Laughing at the bloke who thinks we “haven’t had our injuries” yet. So does that mean Aluko, Burgess, Camara, Leigh and Ahadme aren’t out, they just can’t be bothered to play?

We have about 10 currently?

Edit: Burgess, Leigh, Ahadme, Aluko, Camara, must be a few other reserve players?

You're always going to get a few biased views on forums, we all see things from our own perspective. I would think Ipswich and Sheff Wed have the best squad depth to deal with a 46 game season but that may be no more than a lazy assumption on my part. In truth I have no in depth knowledge of Plymouth's reserves. There's a long way to go and it's what we do from now on that will count and it's true that Ipswich and Plymouth are highly unlikely to continue this form and finish on 110 and 106 points.
I just looked at the promotion odds with bookmakers and was surprised to see we are 1/4 or 1/5. I only wish I felt that confident!

I doubt many Wednesday fans have spent time admiring our squad depth or assessing our injury situation (and vice versa).

It's clear both fanbases are confident our own sides will run deep into the season though, whereas Plymouth aren't. I have a soft spot for Plymouth so would like them to pull off a sustained surprise (for 2nd place, below us).

Can't say I make us the monster favourites the bookies do mind you 😂 feel this market is shaped more by liability than probability!

Like most other Town fans, I don't know the ins-and-outs of the SW squad, but it does seem clear that Bannan is their stand-out player, they lose him to injury for a half-dozen games or so, and their plans for top 2 could be over.

Not to be overly confident but I think we’ll beat Lincoln, especially on our own patch. I’m more confident that we’ll turn them over than I was about Morecambe. It’s why I didn’t want Morsy to get a ‘tactical yellow’ vs Cambridge to miss Morecambe, it was never going to be easy. I think Lincoln will be similar to Cambridge, we’ll have loads of the ball and it’s just a case of if we can break them down. Harness will come back in to the starting XI and I think he’ll have a big role to play, a game and opponent that suits him IMO.

More nervous about Derby 1) because it’s on SKY and as illogical as it is we have historically been poor on TV. 2) new manager, Norwich fan, loves beating us and has done a good job of it in the past. 6 points from the next 2 games and we really are in an incredible spot 1/3 through the season.

They need us and Plymouth to drop off if they want top two so they're always going to say that, although as others have said it's quite funny that some of them seem to believe we'll go on a poor run while they'll go on to win almost every game.

I think overall our squad strength is greater than both Plymouth and Wednesday. We may not have lost a main man to injury but Leigh and Aluko in particular are big misses with the attributes they bring to the game, plus Camara's been one of the best players in the division at Plymouth and hasn't even played yet.

Plymouth have a strong XI plus a few subs but rely quite a bit on the quality of their loans, which could well be taken away from them. If Wednesday have Bannan injured for even a few weeks I think they'll get a bit stuck. Not sure a single attack against us didn't go through him, he's absolutely vital for them and if their complaints about Moore not being able to get the best out of the squad have foundation then they could struggle without him. Obviously we'd be weaker if we lost a Morsy, Walton, Ladapo etc. but I'd back McKenna to be smart enough to find a way to adapt to such a situation.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I read a few Owls fans saying that their squad has depth but not in a few key positions, perhaps that includes cover for Bannan

I feel if we can get Camara fit and Ball stays fit and gets some minutes to stay sharp (pizza cup and as sub) then we do have cover for Morsy… and throw In Humphreys then perhaps cover for our key player Evans

Evans is becoming our playmaker and doing very well on the ball and linking play

Evans is now 28 which is prime of his life for his role… Bannan 33 I think

I'm so glad we started like a train, we needed to. I remember getting stick after the Cambridge game last season (16th October) when I said that our automatic hopes were over when we were 10 points behind. It proved right. I will say the same about Peterborough now, which is a right touch as I fancied them and Sheff Wed to be our two big rivals.

In all honesty we are getting results we didn't get last season. Drawing when we would have lost and winning when we would have drawn. But I still feel as a team we have a fair bit more to give. How many times have virtually every player been on top form all at once. Yes, you can say that you can't pick out a star man (Unless you are David Bowie} and that no one has had a bad game. I suppose when you are rotating players as McKenna is it's difficult for some players to perform to the same level every game. Apparently, Jackson was off the pace yesterday. We had Edmundson a bit dodgy a couple of games ago. Maybe the season will continue in this vein throughout and as long as the results continue it doesn't matter. To say we can't continue as we are is just hopefulness on behalf of Wednesday fans. Teams have stretched way beyond the pack in the past. No reason to believe we and Plymouth can't do the same.

I think fans, not just ours, forget there's a January window as well. I can see us adding to an already decent squad should we be well in the mix then. It really get's me annoyed with the "Cheque book " thing aimed at us. Maybe it's because the owners said they had $80 million in cash when they bought us. But the pure fact remains we sold players, had windfall payments from sell on clauses and are getting gates that many Championship sides would give their right arm for. When you see these games where we take 1000 + and teams still only get 3-4,000 it really put's our 28-29,000 gates into perspective.

I think Port Vale away on the Tuesday night will be a toughie. They seem in decent nick….with a certain ex-striker finding the net a fair bit.
