The only crumb of comfort that I'd take from that particular scenario is that he'd be far more damaging/toxic to the party than a vaguely-competent operator such as Sunak or Mordaunt.

Crispin Blunt was on R4 this morning saying that the next two years before the next GE will be the perfect amount of time for the Tories to attempt to repair the brand, and I'd worry that someone such as Sunak could probably make a pretty good fist of it.

Although I am beginning to suspect those who voted for her are BJ supporters who knew what would happen.

Bad moves seem to be their thing, so I'd far from rule it out.

What a mess. The only good news is that while they're all distracted trying again to save their Party, hopefully they'll leave the rest of us alone.

Johnson wasn't directly replaced by Truss. Johnson could no longer form a government because he'd lost the confidence of nearly all available ministers so he was forced to resign.
Then, a combination of the Tory MPs & members produced the lamentable Truss.
Yes, anything can happen as it's hard to see even the Tory MPs uniting around one candidate, let alone the members.
