Not as bad as it could have been, but probably need someone in Jan to cover that time.

Certainly not ideal at the moment. As much as he can go missing in games, he does have that ability to get a goal from nowhere which we lack elsewhere.

That's a huge blow. If we assume mid Feb that's 15 games he's going to miss. 1/3 of a season including Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Peterborough. Wycombe away, Pompey away.

Those in the know... wasn't TB12 meant to toughen up the legs to minimise these sort of injuries?

It does however give Edwards the opportunity to work with Davis on that left side.

I appreciate the positivity but the way I see it is we already had that option. This has significantly depleted our attacking options.

Walton
Donacien / Woolfenden / Burgess / Edmundson
Burns / Davis
Morsy / Humphreys
Chaplin / Edwards
Ladapo

That for me is a core 12 that we need to protect at all costs. I see Hladky, Keogh, Leigh, KVY, Jackson as playing supporting roles. Camara and Ahadme need to get themselves up to speed ASAP. Evans, TJJ and Aluko need to get themselves fit too. 2 or 3 to come in Jan I would think.

TB12 is about injury prevention through fitness and recovery. Not much you can do about clashing knees with an opponent at speed.

Time for Edwards to step up. Plus Aluko isn't far away from returning.

Unfortunately neither gave the goal threat that Harness poses. Alternatively, neither give the ball away so much.

Either way, it's a big loss for us. Hope Ladapo stays fit or we are screwed.

True. Although a different dynamic if partnered with Chaplin as I think Harness’s work rate, physicality and ability to defend from the front made that a very balanced combo.

It could work of course with two attacking midfielders who are both sharp and threatening on the ball. But there are other options like Edwards with Camara or Chaplin with Aluko (shortly).

Be interesting to see what McKenna does. But a major loss – IMO Harness was our most threatening and most consistent performer in that area of the pitch.

We really need Chaplin to find his early season form again. Would be such a boost.
I guess add to that, Burns to find his form from last season,

Most of our injuries have come from challenges. That wasn't the case in the past, players were picking them up without contact.

10 weeks from today is February 3rd.

That would be 10 league games, 9 if we win on Sunday.

Late January, early February he's due back. Eight to 10 weeks.

We'll probably get a replacement for TJJ in January, but we aren't going to sign anyone to cover Harness when he returns more or less as the window closes.

Hopefully. Although it's unlikely he's going to be out for 10 weeks and slot straight back into a starting XI I would imagine. Would expect a couple of sub appearances first, not sure if that's factored into the timeline.

Most of our injuries have come from challenges. That wasn't the case in the past, players were picking them up without contact.

And the other persistent problem has been in players breaking down whilst recovering from injuries (McGoldrick multiple times, Bishop more than once, Lankester) which does not seem to be the case now.

Should any of those 12 play in the FA Cup?

"At all costs" surely includes the cost of not having a great team out in the FA Cup second round, playing against a non-league team. There's a 5 day gap between Portsmouth and Buxton, so I would think that those who played last time out (and who didn't get injured) should be firing on sufficient cylinders to play v Buxton.

The team below looks pretty lightweight, and some of the "12" would have to come off the bench in any event. So I think we possibly start with 2 or 3 of the 12, and then whip them off once we're 2 or 3 nil up...?

One thing is for sure, Bristol City fans weren't overly complimentary about Andy Rolls and his team re. ongoing injury list.

Although we're delighted to have that infrastructure in place, when do questions have to be asked about decision-making from our 'performance' department?

Why oh why we didn't pick a weakened side against Pompey to focus on the bread and butter of the league beggars belief. It's a stupid, pointless competition with no bearing on our future, unlike the league.

Agree, that's what I would do. I would say perhaps 2 or 3, especially given the opposition. I would love to see a cup run, but given we're at home to Buxton I would like to think we could rotate pretty heavily tomorrow and progress. Maybe something like:

Hladky

Burgess
Keogh
Edmundson

KVY
Leigh

Camara
Humphreys

Jackson
Siziba
Ahadme

Get Humphreys, Burgess & Edmundson off if we're looking comfortable.

Disappointing news, but it’s a squad game and we’ve got a decent one for L1. Time for others to step up to the plate.

I'd like to know if Harness had any % of injury going into the game like Ball did v Bracknell.

We also lost ladapo in warm up..

Is our High intense training to intense leaving players vulnerable in matches.

I think we'll go pretty strong on Sunday. For the most part we're picking up injuries from accidents rather than excessive workloads. We've been unlucky to collect a couple in cup games, but that's just happenstance. A few extra minutes in cup games isn't statistically very likely to make much difference to your injury record.

For years we've rested players for the cups, it's had negligible impact on our results and negligible impact on our ability to keep players fit and available.

13 days will have passed between Exeter and Fleetwood, so I think we'll want that fixture in the middle to keep momentum and keep everyone sharp.
