6, ban sports teams playing in green and yellow
7, allow Irish unity
8, reduce the royals to immediate and heirs making them effectively tax paying staff
9, cut down property and wealth of churches, to create “charity funds” for poor and needy - which is what the f4cking churches should be all about anyway
10, ban Piers Morgan and Nigel Farrage (I not sure I could sanction acts of countryside)

The biggest cause of demise in society is the enormous wealth gap. So I would effectively introduce a pay cap, by introducing a 100% tax rate on anyone earning more than £10M a year. Tax rates should be something like:
Up to £12.5 zero
£12.5k - £25k 10%
£25k - £50k 22%
£50k - £100k 40%
£100k -£150k 45%
£150k - £250k 50%
£250k -£1M 55%
£1M - £3M 65%
£3M - £5M 75%
£5M - £10M 85%
£10M+ 100%

Imprison the executives of companies who cause severe pollution.
Bring back the cones hotline.
Mandatory solar panels on new builds
Grants to improve insulation on homes
And have local volunteers to police pavements and report people who let their hedges encroach across the pavement, serving them with notices to have their hedge cut back.

We tried the 90% interest rate in the 70's and the high earners either got around it or fecked off somewhere else - including The Rolling Stones.

If you want people to pay tax and not spend £millions avoiding it then it has to be reasonable.

You want 40% on £50k? I think you may have to deal with a few more strikes if you implemented that.

Clapham for once agrees with me. I can completely understand a 0% threshold but after that everyone pays the same rate - and if that were the case more bigco might pay it. And if it were implemented you could rightly issue massive fines or imprisonment for serious matters of avoidance.

I've never fully understood taxing success.

I might be missing something here but doesn’t the 40% rate kick in at 50K already?

“I've never fully understood taxing success.”

I do. Because after a certain point that success is invariably built on others and investments made by society. There’s not the same causal link between being rich and being talented as there is between being rich and being an opportunist.

If they’re so good tax is never an issue.

Ha! Yes it does. I just looked it up, £50,271. What a cretin.

Apologies, I go through dividends so I genuinely had no idea. I'm pretty shocked it's that high to be honest - It's way too much!

I sort of disagree.

You say that success is built on others, do you mean the workforce who have a job because of the Head Honcho??

I would be more inclined to raise the minimum wage significantly to be honest, 50% maybe.

You do realise that number 2 is a long-term expense as the only difference is that you are paying out a profit to a private provider ... unless you are also cutting the quality of care provided?

If there is inefficiency in provision, that can be improved without paying a profit margin to a private provider to incentivise them to do so.

For number 3, the issue is we don't have enough GPs. You cannot force them to do something they haven't got the capacity to do. You need to invest in training and employing more!

I would imagine Farage is about right for a knighthood. He would fit in well.

I would quite like to see you on the first flight to a Rwandan processing centre.

But a private provider would'nt put up with the waste that the nhs routinely does. Can't cut the quality of care any further, it's a disgrace.
Any time I go to my surgery these days, i'm the only one there, where are all these patients they're overrun with.
Farage is more deserving of a Knighthood than most who get one. Dedicated his career to a cause and succeeded. Whether you like it or not.
Why would I be on a flight to Rwanda? I did'nt get here illegally on a dingy.

It's a valid point though. For any likely private provider the bottom line will be profit. What gets cut will be academic if dividends can still be paid - so waste, quality of care, what would the shareholders care?

As for Farage - I'm not sure awarding knighthoods for shorting the country is in the spirit of the whole gongs thing.

Maybe they're understaffed to the point there's no one to treat people who wish to come through the door. Perhaps through underfunding and a lack of resources at recruitment level?

Have you considered why any of that might be or is it just simpler to not try and to come up with nonsensical ideas about knighthoods for weirdo, self-serving greedy racists?

Maybe you didn't, but I would like you to spend a few months in a Rwandan detention centre while your case is kicked through the long grass before being heard. It is what your level of empathy deserves.

Where is the waste that the NHS routinely puts up with, by the way? Have you analysed the profit-making private sector to ensure that, without that waste, they are providing the same service cheaper? If not, the savings and some are simply going to profit. Privatised rail routes are costing the tax payer and the consumer more and when they aren't making enough profit we still bail the companies out!

Just to clarify, I wasn't advocating for a flat tax. I meant that unearned income (like dividends) should not be taxed at a lower rate than income.

It's a double tax. First you pay the corporation tax on the profit. Then you pay tax on the dividend you take out from that profit.

No, the company pays the (very low) corporation tax. The individual then pays no tax on the dividend. Some individuals take their entire earnings as a dividend in order to avoid paying Income Tax.

You could argue the double whammy on many forms of taxation as the majority will have already paid Income Tax before paying VAT on spending and using their earnings to pay Council Tax, etc.

No tax on the dividend? I wish! It used to be zero but unfortunately the dastardly Tories changed that.

The company pays a corporation tax which is just about right - possibly a tad too high.

The individual then pays between 8.75% to just under 40% depending on the size of the dividend.

And........ That tvvat Hunt has cancelled the proposed 1.25% reduction.

Edit....... And another thing, you can only take a dividend if you declare a profit and your dividend is limited to the profit you show - so taking dividends ensure you have to show a taxable profit.

To your earlier point:-

https://www.ft.com/content/ca33dc93-78c0-4d7a-a647-cde18ab6a1fd

30 Norwegian billionaires have left in response to increased wealth tax. That’s why greater global cooperation is needed on minimum personal taxation otherwise it will always be a race to the bottom.

As an aside it’s wealth we need to be looking at (in the UK) in my opinion, the richest people don’t draw a huge salary. We have a whole class of people in this country that live off land, inherited wealth, investments, trust funds etc. (basically just described the Royals!) somebody earning 100k might actually be cash rich but asset poor - especially in London.

As I understand it you pay no tax on dividends below £2k. Any thing above that is at something close to your marginal rate.
