Some silent type is going to downvote that for certain. I'll get in first with my sympathy.

Pretty simple really.

I only post in the ‘Football’ comments and avoid ‘General’ as it seems to have become a place of arguments that turn overly nasty and I can’t be done with that.

Think Phil’s very kind to offer a ‘General’ section for people who want to have community discussion on this site, just wish people would respect that more.

What I find more odd is everyone is on their moral high horse about “arguing” today when that’s already a gross and lazy misrepresentation of what actually happened.

People were posting outright transphobia (again) and another section of this forum think it’s HILARIOUS to make a big joke about it for BANTZ (again) I’d argue that’s the saddest part - not those who care enough to call out bigotry but those who waste their day reciting their Jim Davidson comedy tribute no one asked for.

If yesterday was about Jewish people, Muslims, Homosexuals or PoC 6-7 posters would have been banned, instead we lost Jeera, who despite a hugely misjudged post was probably the least offensive thing said yesterday in comparison.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable bringing a trans friend to Portman Road at present. That isn’t something we should be proud of as a supporter base.

As I mentioned, I don’t read the General section so I have no idea what you’re referring to here and wouldn’t want to comment on it.

I’m only here for the football.

Oh it wasn’t aimed at you. For those who didn’t read it though I just wanted to ensure what actually happened isn’t overshadowed by over simplifying it to just arguing. It wasn’t arguing, it was posters being transphobic (again).

I’d argue posters demanding we deny human rights to sections of marginalised society and posting outright bigotry concerns us all.

Trans rights aren’t world problems, there are trans people in Ipswich. A fair few actually.

Was it more peaceful? How many people died at the hands of war and conflict in the last century?

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, it’s not a particularly informed take.

You're right, it's not informed, and that's kind of my point. I've watched my parents inform themselves by doing their own research over the last few years and some of the things they come out with is concerning.

I admire your energy. I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

There are a few people, once they get on a thread that's it. MOST people at least take other peoples views and can see it. Others seem to not be able to do that.

I agree with you its very odd and people are waiting there all day for a reply. Maybe they need to take a break.

One particular poster rarely, if at all, posts on football things. Very odd!

EDIT: The ignore function should be used more too.

Don't think there can be too many complaints after telling someone to f off.

FWIW they were ridiculous accusation and misrepresentations, and no doubt highly offensive to those on the receiving end. You, the moderators, do a very good job in difficult circumstances IMO, towing a healthy line of allowing freedom of debate and being a space that's open to different opinions, while being quick to quash offensive content with very low tolerance to it.

Shame that a few well meaning and honest folk had to be caught up in that level of slander, yourself included.

Arguing is good if done in the right manner. You won't learn much from people you already agree with. If its not done in the right manner, e.g. when people regard their opinions as facts, then, as we have seen, it is not good.
