Promotion or the FA Cup 11:09 - Jan 7 with 3533 viewsSitfcB

Saw this tweet and it’s a good question…

I think it would be to win the FA Cup, I know it’s now why it used to be but if we got to the final it would be a big thing around the world! It’s only devalued when the same old teams get to the final and no one really cares who wins out of Chelsea v Liverpool.

Plus we’d be in Europe wouldn’t we?

Sounds like a very binary question, of course it's quite possible to adopt a more fluid position and go for both. Why limit your horizons/choices because someone has told you that's all that is available?

FA Cup, without a doubt. What a story that'd be.

Sooner or later, we'll get promoted out of this division, but winning the FA Cup would be once in a lifetime.

Trying to talk football again?

Well if we could do both then bloody hell yes of course but this is a question of choice, which on would you prefer if you really had to pick.

promotion. yet another year in the 3rd division would be soul destroying and even more humiliating than the time we've spent here already.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Win the FA Cup but I’d much prefer a defeat today and win next week so work that one out.

It’s not in the slightest remotest dream a possible choice! I’d take a thumping defeat today if it makes promotion more likely.

The whole club rebuild is so heavily dependent on promotion that I 'd take promotion this season. The whole project could falter if we don't promote this season - not that the owners will walk away but the heavy investment that they are making elsewhere could easily be paused.

So far.

Added bonus of missing promotion would be that we qualify for The Pizza Cup again!

As someone else has already said, we can just get promoted next year if it means we could choose to win the FA Cup this year. Winning the FA Cup from the third tier would be a legendary achievement we could dine out on for decades!

FA Cup.

If we have learnt anything it's that winning things is what counts. We will inevitably get out of league one over the next few years with the structure/ownership we have now.

We have won 3 majors in 144 years. A fourth would be a no brainer.

Innit. It’s all about winning things and it’s a journey rather than a destination. Seeing Morsy lift the FA Cup at Wembley having just humbled Man City in a final vs the prospect of playing Reading away.

Not to play down the importance of promotion but in this hypothetical scenario it’s a no brainer for me. Reality is we, of course, won’t win the FA cup but I would still like our run to go a touch further and see what a 4th round draw might throw up. I don’t see it being detrimental to a promotion push tbh, if anything the opposite effect and a confidence boost.

Our away support deserves a big draw. I hope they get it. The injection of cash an away game at Old Trafford would bring in would also be nice.

I’d go for a 1992 style memorable defeat at a big club, big away following good day out, then get promoted.

Without a doubt promotion, had enough of this league and the awful refs. Promotion this year then championship stabilisation next season along with the fa cup

Indeed, once we are back in the Premier League we can get on with winning the FA Cup more often than not can't we?

I can see the point that a League 1 side winning the FA Cup would be a massive story but we also know that it would be a big story because it simply isn't going to happen.

I would like us to win this afternoon because being knocked out hasn't helped us get anywhere in the league in the past. But getting promoted is 100% the priority.
