So how are you meant to lie down for a sleep?
You’re supposed to pull over into car parks for that sort of thing. I understand that there are car parks that cater to other kinds of activities people do in vehicles too.

My Dad objected when they brought in the seat belt law and for years used to pull it across his body and hold it with his hand rather than submit to obeying "a new law that no one bloody asked for"
Cant imagine where I got my stuborn side from 😃
Doesn't matter how sane a new law is, people will be stubborn and think up all sorts of things to justify themselves.

To be fair to your dad I see that stubborn breaking of the law constantly with car drivers when it comes to the speed limit. Perfect example, walking out yesterday where we have a 20mph speed limit and they have one of those signs that flashes the speed of the car when it's over 20mph. For a short period I stopped, watched and counted, the first 10 cars who drove past all triggered that sign for over 20mph, all drivers happy to break the law.
Speeding is such a stupid law they either need to have cameras everywhere and fine/ban those stubborn law breakers or given I would estimate 100% of drivers break the speed limit at some point abolish speed limits.

Yep, why report on the Tory party chairman who seems to have been tax dodging to the tune of £3.7m when you can report on the PM not wearing a seatbelt...
This one finally seems to have made it as a major story this morning!

I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I do not understand how he isn't suspended pending a full investigation, let alone in jail. His houses and offices should be raided and he not return until all criminality is explored.
You and I would not be carrying on pocketing millions would we?

So the law isn|t the problem, it's the people who refuse to abide by them. Maybe we should abolish the carrying of weapons laws too?

Thanks for posting this. Fascinating how times change. What’s interesting is that these attitudes persisted many years. When I first had a car, the nominated driver would keep it to five pints and feel a bit miffed while the rest enjoyed themselves.
My boss at work would roll back from the pub or some wine bar or restaurant in the middle of the afternoon before tottering to his car every day. My dad didn’t drink and drive, but there was often a cigarette jammed in his fingers and we didn’t think anything of it.
As for seat belts the first heap I owned had those belts that you had to manually adjust. No inertia reel there. I just didn’t bother with it most of the time. In the late 80s I got hauled over by plod a couple of times and got an earful and obeyed after that. Now the car goes berserk if I don’t plug the thing in. A good thing!
With regard to speed limits and cameras they should be appropriate to the road in my view. In South London they have a ULEZ zone of blanket 20 miles an hour. Given the roads and hills, for example around Crystal Palace, it’s almost impossible and just doesn’t work in my view. Near me, a camera is sited on a down slope, hidden round a shallow bend. It is impossible for pedestrians to cross the road, there’s no turn ins or outs. It’s there to make money. I can’t agree with that.
On the flip side, near schools, crossings, dangerous places, narrow lanes and villages like Waldringfield where my dad lives, 20mph limit and a camera is something I’d put in.

Apparently Lancashire police reported that a 42 year old London man had been issued a fixed penalty for not wearing a seatbelt in a moving car. The fine can be up to £500, but they did not say how much the fine was. Maybe I am mistaken, but I always thought the fine was up to £1000. That's immaterial really for someone who's a multi billionaire. If he was fined any less than the maximum that's a travesty of justice. I regularly watch these police type programmes and it amazes me how a person driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs whether class A or B get's a tiny rap on the knuckles and another who thought they had insurance on their car get's a hefty fine and points on their licence. I'm not for one minute condoning either breaking of the law. But very often the difference between one offence and another when it comes to the persons punishment isn't consistent at all.

When I was a kid 3 of us used to sit in the boot (estate car) without a care in the world.
My record in Nigeria was 8 passengers (plus driver) in a Honda civic, that was a bit cosy tbh, cost me a couple of hundred naira fine too (about a quid)
Some interesting pre seat belt moments in amongst this lot.
