Not that much of a surprise. With Donation on the bench you have cover at CB and RB. Allows KM to have more attscking options.

Unless he has a knock. Am worried about playing out of the back if that's how we line up. We'll be reliant on Edmundson and he'll be on the wrong side.

It always looks bad but when you look at it, there's no CB on the bench at all. LW wouldn't play anywhere else, so if not starting it makes sense he's not involved at all. Having said that, I'm surprised and a bit disappointed Keogh starts ahead of him.

Is it 3 new CB's or will we continue to play 4 at the back as we have been all season?

I'd prefer Edmundson on the right and Burgess on the left to Keogh being out there. From memory he struggled at Morecambe earlier in the season.

Possibly a 4 with Clarke on the right, although I think he could do either role. Surely there must be an injury/illness issue here. I can’t see why you’d preferentially pick that lineup with no cover on the bench. (Edit - oops missed JD, so maybe this is the preferred plan. Seems odd - Woolf our best CB for KM’s approach imo). Indeed a bit dicey playing out of the back, but I thought that we played longer more often on Saturday.

Clarke can play CB, I think, so he'd move to the middle with Donacien at RB if needed. Not that Donacien isn't a centre back either, as Paul Hurst wanted to show us.

We’ve been mixing it up for a little while, although I could misremembering as I’ve seen a couple of Swansea matches lately and it takes them 20 minutes to get out of their own box. Everything seems direct compared to that.

Yeah, there’s flexibility there. Still surprising, but I suppose someone had to drop out. It’s a nice problem to have and hopefully KM can keep them all happy and sharp.

The only other possible option is that McKenna doesn't think Morecambe are a threat, and wants Edmundson and, more likely, Keogh some game time, just in case they are needed later in the season. Or perhaps we're going to revert to route 1.

Don't see the issue really. Our defence have been shaky since before Xmas, and certainly with the late goals we seem to be conceding. Having a rethink is maybe what is needed - if only to do something different from the usual tactics.

Or Burgess. Very surprised if they've both got a knock or are ill, seems like a message from KM

I'd argue our shakiness for the most part come from more than just the defence. But that's for another thread!

I think he's just fed up with the poor defending. Hopefully the three dropped will play better when next selected.
