Zahawi sacked on 10:35 - Jan 29 by BlueBadger | So far, the Labour pitch is largely been about 'well, we're not them'. It would be nice to seem them going bit more on the front foot over the next 12 months or so. |
Agreed. Not convinced that the approach currently being adopted, pushing the idea that Sunak is weak, is going to be enough. We need to hear more about Labour’s strengths, so that the electorate can be won over. Going to be more of a slog than some believe.

Working in the short term. If Sunak hadn't been called out as weak at PMQs, he wouldn't have sacked Zahawi today. Need to bury the easy chances.

Zahawi sacked on 09:19 - Jan 29 by EastTownBlue | He didn’t even do the honourable thing and resign before any investigation. |
Worse than that, I vividly remember him being interviewed and asked about an HMRC investigation a few months back when he assumed his new role and he proceeded to deny that any investigation was taking place and it was a made up story to make him look bad. Turns out he was in communication with them on the matter since 2021, so that was a bare faced lie, as most of us suspected at the time. At least he was consistent with his lies and failed to declare the matter on each and every ministerial position he took. Obviously, this allowed Sunak to hide away from having to make a decision on it, but to suggest Sunak didn’t know anything about it is absolute bollox, but of course no evidence to support that claim will ever come to light. Just another day for the Government, this is well, well down the list, in terms of the magnitude of scandalous events that have unfolded at the parties hands, but they will continue to be ignored, nobody will serve time and in a couple of months he’ll be employed again in some department or other and the sleaze baton will inevitably be passed on again. I also found it ironic that someone who professes to love this country as much as he claims had to be forced to pay their taxes. Paying taxes is pretty much the most basic contribution a citizen makes to their country, and he didn't even want to do that, at least not as fully as he ought to have. Fook him. And by current Tory standards he was seen as a fairly decent one. The absolute state of it.

Not forgetting that in the expenses scandal a few years ago he had to pay back the cost of heating the stables in his country estate. Think that put down to a careless error too.

Zahawi sacked on 13:22 - Jan 29 with 1436 views | HARRY10 | This is a sham The tax evader was sacked because he did not tell the Prime Miniature that he was having his collar felt by HMRC After last nights revelation that a number of sources contradicted that claim, including Sinon Case* (cabinet secretary), it was inevitable Sunak would try to distance himself.... by sacking this corrupt tax evader. But it will not have escaped notice that Sunak has only talked of a supposed failure to inform him, not that a government minster had been exposeas a tax evader. And the chancellor to boot ! The thought must be that some of this loony stuff is being done to keep the Tory Party together rather than for the benefit of the country. And on a side note it once again blows a massive whole in the PR nonsense. Politicians will coalesce around a major party in the hope of directing it their way (ERG) rather than splinter into smaller parties with no hope of any unfluence (Lidems 2010) The point then is not to be distracted by some idea that less democracy will improve matters, but to have a more rigorous holding of politicians to account. How many Tories (Johnson incuded) are currently being investigated ? Over months (years ?)it would seem. Whereas a conclusion in this case took a couple of days. Though it was the fall out that saw the quick resolution, not any wish for inegrity in the Tory Party. So will the story here, be one of a minister who was only guilty of not being open with the PM - or the real story. One of deliberate and intentional tax evasion from a minister of one of the top four offices of state ? So now lets see a real investigation into this crook. And public updates on the others. * https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/simon-case-tory-scandals-sunak-boris-johnso

The only updates you’ll see are ones on Michelle Mone, she has clearly been marked as the scapegoat, obvious choice of course, she’s “new money” so it won’t upset many in the party, the “old money” will actually quite enjoy watching her being publicly executed. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 13:45]

Indeed. People like to think that rich people get rich through hard work and endeavour, when the truth is they mostly do it through fleecing people. Zahawi is a classic example.

I suspect there is more to come from this tax evading shster as someone who thought he could blag the expenses system amd set up what looked o be tax evasion 20 years ago is unlikely to have not applied that mindset to other business ventures. Thankfully there are groups (the Good Law) who are working in this area, dedicated to holding these crooks to account. The only point of concern is how easuly they were able to get elected. Bit harsh on Ben Wallace who declined to cash in his flavour of the month chips and stand in either Leadership Election because he believed the Ministry of Defence was too important to leave in limbo during the height of the Ukraine war. He gets a "piece of sweetcorn" pass from me.

Same is true here, the right wing Radio and TV shows are funded significantly by ads promoting ways to avoid paying taxes to the IRS. Way to go, patriots!

Zahawi sacked on 14:36 - Jan 29 with 1318 views | Swansea_Blue | Being interviewed on R4 this morning, Dan Niedle said there is going to be another MP outed later this week for similar offences albeit on a smaller scale. He all but said it was a Labour MP. Without wanting to invoke whatabouterry, it’s going to be amusing to see people in the media who largely ignored Zahawi clutching their pearls if it ids a Labour MP (and vice versa). Prepare yourselves for some massive doses of hypocrisy.

There is this one that has been knocking around for a few days "Metropolitan Police have received a report that a politician - who once held a high-profile role - has committed expenses fraud by improperly claiming housing funds. The Tory figure currently remains unnamed, but last night Scotland Yard confirmed it was conducting an assessment of the information"

eh ? Lobbying firms act as a conduit for their clients - so you do not have to be too bright to know where the money orginated from - and the example you give is rather misleading, to put it mildly "On 15 December 2015, when the firm gave money to the four Conservative MPs, it had received $100,000 from Gazprombank for lobbying work done that quarter." note the word lobbying, not legal .............. lobbying work
