Ipswich Town scorelines 19:16 - Jan 30 with 4255 views | Miaow | I was thinking about the more unique scorelines from Town games over the years and was wondering when we last saw each of them. I don’t know for definite but I wouldn’t be surprised if the 6-4 against Crewe in 2004 is the only one of those we’ve had in our professional history? And I shall mention 4-4 here and now so nobody else has to... Have we actually been involved in a 5-4 since we beat Newcastle by that scoreline in 1975? That’s the only one I’m aware of but that was a while before I was born so I can’t be sure. And I personally don’t remember a 6-3 during my lifetime. I remember that 5-3 defeat at Lincoln between Christmas and New Year in 2019, after which Lambert was inexplicably given the most ridiculous contract ever. And there was the 5-3 win at Barnsley in 2011 which kept Jewell in a job. I think our last 5-2 wins were at Rotherham in 2015/16 (Murphy ending his goal drought with a hat-trick) and at home to Sunderland two seasons later. Don’t need to talk about the last 2-5 defeat. We beat Aldershot 7-2 in our early days in the Football League and I believe we lost at home by that scoreline to Man United in our relegation season of 1963/64, alongside two even heavier defeats. Our biggest league win is “only” 7-0, and we could have equalled that against Doncaster last season if Rekeem Harper’s shot hadn’t come back off the post. If we’d kept at it in the second half against Morecambe then we could possibly have scored a few more. I remember when we beat Forest and Bristol City 6-0 in 2005 and 2007 respectively we finished scoring with about twenty minutes to go in each match. And a certain game against Man United in 1980 could have been an ever bigger margin of victory. I’d quite like to see us hammer another team or two before the end of the season.

Ipswich Town scorelines on 19:27 - Jan 30 with 3301 views | bournemouthblue | I think we beat Burnley 6 - 1 under Royle, we scored a lot of goals that season Did we beat Doncaster 6 - 0 away from home when Wickham got a hat-trick? We beat several teams heavily under Burley in successive games from memory What was the score in that game which saved Jewell's job?

That was Barnsley away. We were 2 down and Jewell looked a dead man walking going down that tunnel at half-time. Somehow we came back to win 5-3 with Keith Andrews scoring a brace. Scored 5 in a game in three successive home matches (Nodge, Oxford and Huddersfield) under Burley. Not a league game, but beat Avenir Beggen 8-1. Can remember a 6-0 away at Notts County, then sticking the same amount past WBA a few weeks later in 82-83 season. Two 3-4 reverses in a row in 85-86 v Everton and Oxford (which I've always said cost us our First Division place) Must also mention beating Fulham 4-2 two days after the 10-1 Craven Cottage drubbing. Also have a vague recollection of letting several in at Old Trafford one afternoon. Just on that point, at what point did the numbers get spelled out on the Grandstand vidiprinter? It was either 6 or 7.

Ipswich Town scorelines on 21:04 - Jan 30 with 3108 views | Miaow | In response to the above, I think that 6-1 win over Burnley and possibly also the 8-1 against Avenir Beggen saw us 5-0 up at half-time. With the Joe Royle era being the first I properly remember of Town, it seemed like we would hit five or six at least every season. That, coupled with our previous reputation for good football under George Burley and then later under Jim Magilton, made the Keane/Jewell/etc. years under Evans feel particularly dire, although I remember in one season (05/06, I think) we didn't score more than three in any game - I want to say a 3-1 win against Plymouth was our best. Magilton's first year in 2006/07 had the 5-0 win over Luton and that 5-2 win against Hull that was mentioned - I feel like Jaime Peters scored in both of those? Edit: Just seen that we also beat Barnsley 5-1 at Portman Road that season. That 6-0 win at Doncaster equalled our biggest Football League away win (also 6-0 at Notts County and Swindon) and was a bit of a highlight of that era. Still, I think Dean Bowditch was a bit younger than Connor Wickham when he got his hat-trick against Watford around 2003/04. The 8-1 in the UEFA Cup against Beggen (2002), 10-0 vs Floriana (1962) and 7-0 vs Skeid Oslo (1979) are our biggest margins of victory in Europe. The 1963/64 season saw us lose 2-7 at home, 9-1 and 10-1 away, three 6-0 away defeats and also a 6-3 loss at Spurs. And brackets (parentheses?) definitely come out when it gets to (SEVEN) or more. Edit: Another 5-2 would obviously have to be the Alan Brazil game against Southampton. [Post edited 30 Jan 2023 21:31]

The 6-0 at Notts County followed by another big win just a couple or so weeks later was literally how I became an Ipswich fan. I was 10 at the time, went into school and mates talking about Leeds, Liverpool and I think Arsenal results. I piped up about the Ipswich result, I think it was met with silence…couple of weeks later, my love was cemented and I was giving it large after another big win. The rest is history. 💙
Ipswich Town scorelines on 22:53 - Jan 30 with 2907 views | patrickswell | I have a feeling, without rushing to look it up, that John Duncan's biggest win as Town manager was 5-1 vs Stoke in Sergei Baltacha's debut. Duncan seemed to specialise in 4-2 away wins, with 3 in the calendar year of 1989 alone at Walsall, Leeds and Sunderland. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Also won 5-1 at Shrewsbury. Simon Milton hat-trick in that same 88-89 season. We had a 6-2 away defeat at Villa in the League Cup. David Platt getting four of them from memory. A further away 4-2 at Northampton in the league cup. We also had a thing for beating promotion challengers 4-0 at home in 87-88. Bradford and Boro. [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 9:42]

Ipswich Town scorelines on 09:49 - Jan 31 with 2580 views | PhilTWTD | I was looking up something recently and noticed our biggest FA Cup win, which seems to have been forgotten. We beat Cromer 11-0 at home in the third qualifying round in our first professional season, 1936/37. Not sure why that doesn't get quoted as our biggest professional win rather than the Floriana European Cup 10-0.

We did. It was in the 73/74 season. Also WBA in 76/77. Unfortunately we also lost to Sheff Utd 7-0 in 71/72

They were really, really bad. We were camped outside their area for the last twenty or so minutes, taking pot shots and trying fancy flicks. Forest could not retain any possession whatsoever.

Probably because that 11-0 was against Cromer. Arbroath 36 Bon Accord 0 is in the record books, but probably not seriously regarded due to it being a) a long time ago b) recorded by no less than Arbroath c) against a team who no longer exist. Then again, many Scots would generally wonder if Cromer was a real team/place.

Swindon away 6-0 was great under Burnley, notable too that the whole of the back 4 scored IIRC.

Ipswich Town scorelines on 15:09 - Jan 31 with 2116 views | shaunmahony | Best one I saw was the 6-0 win over Man U when they were 2nd and we were third , and the missed penalties! A few years earlier I had missed Paul Mariner's home debut beat WBA 7-0 - Whymark scored 4 as he had done against Lazio which I did see. Great pairing,
