I was in the pet shop the other day and saw a bag of dried dog food made from insects. I'd not seen this before and though it was about time and I look forward to us getting insect based products ourselves.
It always irritates me when this subject comes up on the TV and you see people eating whole insects putting people off but if its made into flour or some other ingredient then more people will get on board. |  |

I remember a former workplace of mine having a large stock of cricket flour from https://www.crickethop.com/ and the reactions were much the same sadly. Lots of people terrified/repulsed to even go near the very inoffensive packaging. Having said that I remember a trend a bit further back of bugs being sold as snack replacements, I seem to remember trying the fried ants which tasted a lot like nutty bacon and were quite moreish. | |

I've eaten a lot of dodgy things, especially in China and I generally quite enjoy the experience, bat for example was blooming lovely.
Once though I bought a portion of insects off a vendor as they looked quite tasty and crunchy - but oh man! They were awful.
Never again! Same with snake, blooming horrible, full of thousands of little bones. I thought they would be like an eel, nice and chunky and delicious. |  |

I have no problem with eating whole insects but you're right, the route to mass adoption is as "filler", either as flour like you suggest or as a percentage of the protein in something like a burger.
I had a lovely cricket salsa in a Mexican place a while back, it was superb.

I was given chilli flavoured crickets once by some colleagues who came over with them all gleeful, they were gutted I just wolfed them down. Think the novelty/repulsion factor will always make it hard to make them viable, but my lizard eats them and blooming loves them. |  |

Dogs are opportunistic scavengers and will eat anything including sh!t. Horse sh!t in particular is a favourite as it is highly nutritious = horses can digest grass without eating their poo = but alas its considered a vice to let them eat the way god designed them…. So rather than insects, dogs should be fed horse poo based dog food. | |

Slight tangent but I met a bloke once who was launching a plant based vegan dog food. They do exist, but he was explaining the science to me and reckoned there’s a load of different nutrients and vitamins a dog needs in it’s food, and I think he said 13 out of 14 were possible in the plant based offerings but the belief was there was 1 missing that was hard to replace, but he was working with a product house to try and sort that. Not sure where he got with it, don’t think it ever launched. |  |
