First game I ever went to. Been waiting for one to live up to that ever since!
All I can really remember clearly is that I must have been in the corner of the Churchmans near the West stand as I remember being really close to the players as they came in and out of the tunnel.

Lol, I was at that game. I was a kid stood down at the front of the North Stand. It seemed every time we scored, so did they. It was a helluva and a helluva of an atmosphere that day. Weird thing is all I can remember during the game, was being able to see the whole length of the pitch through to the Churchman’s Stand , through Malcom MacDonald legs because when he faced the fans in the NS, his legs were SO bowed. Made me laugh as a kid ! |  |

I was there that day. I too remember how bowed MacDonalds legs were. The pitch was a quagmire, and also I remember MacDonald, who was supposedly the fastest player in the country, had a 3 yd head start but Beattie outpaced him to the ball. |  |

I’ve not seen a 5-4 involving us, but I was at this match (non-ITFC alert). Palace were leading 4-3 after 90 mins only to throw it away in added on time.

We didn’t but Burley’s Southampton side lost on penalties to Derby in the 2007 play-offs in a tie they would have won on away goals under the old system (lost 2-1 at home, won 3-2 away). [Post edited 16 Mar 2023 9:45]

I was at that game. We literally got back fr9m the first replay to queue up Lund PR for tickets for the 2nd replay, only to make our way back to Filbert St which seemed like almost the next day . It was a queue of Town fans all along that A14 ( think it’s was the A45 then?), from Ipswich to Leicester. It was a helluva tussle between the two sides. Just look at that pitch though. Players would complain about that today lol ! | |

I was at that game. If I remember rightly it was pouring with rain and although I had a season ticket me and my buddy weren't keen on going but my dad wasn't going to let a bit of rain put him off.
He was right. What a match.
Taught me never to let the weather get in the way of a match.
As to the Leeds game it was the easily the best away atmosphere I have ever experienced with the Ipswich fans singing loudly all the way through.
Even a few oldies made it in (Remember the old Ipswich Town anthem Keep right on the the need of the road?)
