I'm not going to be too critical of either. Walton is happy to come for balls and take pressure off his defenders. We can't praise him for it when it works and then get on his back on the rare occasions he cocks up. As for Woolfy he was having a great game, dealing with everything thrown at him in difficult conditions. Just think a little more composure in that moment and he reacts better to that.
Still, it's a point. We go again. |
Was going to say that weather, pitch, Cheltenham's recent home record (2 wins, 3 draws out of their last 5, with only 3 goals conceded) & absence of Broadhead made today one of our trickiest final games imho (and looked like we only just held on to a point right at the end). From behind the goal it looked like it was easily reaching Walton.
Then wind held it up and Walton looked like he didn’t want to be stranded off his line if it flicked over him so committed to it.
So frustrating but that was purely down to the conditions and a freak gust holding it up at the worst possible time.

Have had plenty of years playing in goal and fielding in Cricket, it is so hard to judge when the ball is holding up in the wind and you can end up looking stupid. |  |

Well summed up CB. As you say that was all about decision making and I’m far happier that Walton wants to come for those high balls - in tough conditions today - which he often snuffles up. He won’t need any of us telling him, he’ll know that he should’ve simply let Woolfenden or Burgess deal with that one. | |

Has he? Think out backline and forward play have provided more for our fantastic run than Walton. Not necessarily his fault, just we haven't been conceding many shots on target, from memory. |

And if he didn't save the penalty at Bolton the clean sheet stats was broken weeks ago and we may well have lost that gain as we'd have lost momentum. Just back him FFS look how many clean sheets he has, but most L1 keepers have a mistake like that in them. It happens trying backing them when a mistake is made rather than look to blame everyone. | | | |

It was 100% down to the wind. He judged it as a ball he should come for quite early, then the wind held it up and he had to keep coming.
If he hadn't then Woolfenden would have probably won the header or at least done enough to make any header from the striker relatively tame.
I don't blame Woolfenden at all. He got a shout, moved out the way, responded quickly to the loose ball and did the right thing by heading it rather than letting it bounce. He got his header over the Cheltenham man, who did well to bring it down and shoot. | | | |
