I'm sensing that there's quite a few people under the impression that the reason he hasn't signed a permanent deal, is of his own choice. Sorry to break it to you, but that couldn't be further from the truth, the guy had only played 40 something games in 3 seasons prior to joining us and was released by Middlesborough as he couldn't get anywhere near the side, having trained and not been offered any terms at other clubs in the Championship, it would have been mental to offer him anything more than we did. He is getting on now (in football terms) and simply isn't mobile enough for our style of play in the Championship, where the quality and speed/fitness of player is higher than league 1, this is typified by the sort of signings we make under McK. He simply isn't mobile enough to hack it at Championship level any more, certainly not without getting injured frequently and looking miles off the pace. He and Morsy had rings run round them last night by Port Vale in the midfield in that first half, through nothing more than the oppo having faster players.

He's been brilliant for us since he came in, but make no mistake, if Evans/Camara etc were fit, he'd be nowehere near the squad even now in League 1 for us, let alone the starting XI, or match day squad in the Championship. I don't think he'll be offered terms if we get promoted, possibly might get terms if we don't, but we'll be back in for Taylor and A.N. Other for the CM role regardless, so the outlook isn't great for him either way.

That aside, he still has a massive role to play for us in the next 4 games and he is absolutely critical to our midfield currently with all the injuries we have, I hope he finds himself part of a promotion achieving side this season.

All I've seen is a player fit enough to play nearly every 90 minutes, every game, at full pace. Covering lots of ground. Making tackles. Pushing forward.

None of what you've said makes sense based on observation.

And he's younger than Morsey.

sorry to break it to you but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to football. what an utterly nonsense post

You think Evans is better than Luongo? Evans had a good six weeks at the he start of this season but has otherwise disappointed here. Him and Morsy doesn’t offer enough dynamism as a partnership (see Lincoln, Oxford or Cambridge away).

Whilst I don't agree with certain aspects of what you've said. I do agree that I feel we offered the 6 months rather than he asking for 6 months only.

For me he was a potential injury problem.. however as with many players our medical team appear to be doing something other clubs haven't achieved similar to mcgoldrick at clubs after us.

He's a super player. Is he what KM will want in the champ. Hopefully we get to find out soon. But for now. We can enjoy him.

I certainly missed the part of the first half where the Port Vale midfield ran rings around ours.

I made it clear there was only one aspect of his post that I agree with.

Why would it not be possible for town to offer a 6 month deal?

He wasn't playing. We had injury problems ourselves. We've 7 contracted midfielders at the club. We at the time of signing him were still trying to get Taylor and it wasn't a given based on previous seasons that we'd be getting this many minutes from him.

Players and managers have been signed with short term deals before so it's absolutely possible we only offered 6 months. And tbh it would have been a sensible move.

What a laughable post lol

The reason we have gone on a run is lots of things combined - but I guarantee - without Luongo - we would not be where we are now

He has been the main reason we are where we are in my opinion

Indeed, he was (quite openly commented on by the gaffer) signed purely as cover, due to our injury problems, why would we want to offer him a permanent contract for "X" years? Lol, the level of naivety by some of the fan base when it comes to anything structurally football related, is quite astonishing sometimes.

The fact that he has effectively plugged a hole whilst so many have been out injured for such a long period, is great and is exactly what he was signed for, but it does not mean we look to keep hold of him, to the contrary, we are still actively pursuing other CM's and will continue to do so.

Who has disputed that he was on given a short term deal due to his injury record? I'd say he's done far more than plug a hole, him and Morsy have formed the best midfield partnership we've had years. I've no doubt he'll be offered an extension, and should we go up next year, he and Morsy will remain our preferred partnership in the middle.

If we go up, categorically 1000% Luongo will not be starting in midfield for us and probably won't be anywhere near the match day squad, most likely he won't be at the club.

That's been the line today I'm afraid Sitters, today's TWTD theory is that he hasn't signed permanently because he was waiting to see if we got promoted before making a decision, difficult to believe, but true nonetheless.
