Pitch invasion or not… 12:39 - Apr 24 with 5624 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Regardless of whether it’s Saturday or the end of the play offs, I’m not sure I can see it happening at PR!

Security will be huge across the lower north and that area would be the main instigators. Plus, the tiers and one way systems won’t make it very feasible! Then the lower Britannia is mainly families who won’t be sprinting on, and largely the same with the lower south stand too.

I might be wrong mind you.

Not sure there would be one for winning promotion from league one but if there is the club might just let it happen as the pitch is being replaced anyway and fans have had nothing to cheer about for so long.

Truly impaired.

When was our last pitch invasion?

I was certainly there for the post Bolton play-off one. Can't remember many, or any since?

The post Gunn/Ullathorne one was fun too.

Fair point on the pitch, but I think they would probably be more worried about player / fan safety than the playing surface.

There was one in 93/94, or maybe it was 95. Man Utd at home. Mancs took exception to us signing ynwa at them.

There's probably not much they can do to stop it but they won't let it happen. It always brings, i think, a heavy fine from the EFL.

If we win tomorrow to set up the Exeter game for a potential promotion clincher I imagine the club will put out a strongly worded statement about not going on the pitch. “Player safety, give everyone a chance to enjoy lap of honour…”

It may be that they'll try and use the awards presentation as leverage.

I was at Barnet a few years back when they won the Conference - the PA announcer spent most of the second half advising that there would be no trophy presentation or lap of honour if a pitch invasion took place. It worked.

Yep. There was. Also v Everton around that time. First one I recall was Oxford after that Atkins last minute winner. Then there were several board/manager protest related ones around 89/90/

Agreed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they make the usual threats regarding banning orders and prosecution, in the hope of heading off any potential pitch invasion.

Oxford after the Atkins winner, what a game that was. Butcher getting his head stitched. Remember carrying Dozzell off the pitch, we thought we were going to do it and stay up. How wrong we were, despite Mariner promising Arsenal would win at Oxford :(

The club will have to be seen to discourage it but they’ll want it to happen.

Heard they're bringing in a serious number of extra stewards for this one. They want to be able to do something post-game on the pitch.

There was a pitch invasion after beating Bolton in PO semi final. I dont recall anyone being prosecuted for it. Nobody got hurt. Sheepy didnt seem to mind being interviewed on the pitch with all the fans behind him.

Ashton will be absolutely gagging to get his hands on that microphone. I would think a pitch invasion is unlikely, they'll want people staying put and the players coming out to do a lap of honor.

A pitch invasion would deprive the majority of fans the opportunity to applaud the players on a lap of honour.

That was over twenty years ago, when football was a different beast entirely.

Given the modern-day focus on disorder, pitch invasions, and the like, as well as incidents as a result of pitch invasions in recent seasons, I dare say that the club will be doing everything that they can to avoid anything like this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the post-match presentation on Saturday was planned with this in mind.

True. I am not thinking about going on the pitch saturday. Too old for that nonsense. I'll just remain in the stand and wave my flask and blanket.

The one away to them lot up the road in the play offs wasn’t a lot of fun. Only highlight was seeing some of their fans nearly her stomped by police horses

McKenna windmilling around the penalty area as Ed plays, Mike O'Leary necking bottles of red. Chaplin being paraded round on Walton's shoulders. Ashton with his tie round his head doing the David Brent dance, addressing his adoring fans. 'Lets be really clear about this, we're coming to get that lot down the road'. Cheers. 'Oh, and let's be even clearer, we had more fans at MK Dons than they did'. Rapturous applause.

Not really sure I agree with the club wanting it to happen? FA Fine, potential player safety issues (for opposition players too), delays any other celebrations planned
, potential bottlenecking of fans trying to get on
