If you were leaving Oscars at 3 am is there any chance it felt like the journey took 18 minutes but it really took an hour?

Fine and a really annoying online course on safe driving. While we’re confessing, once knocked a wing mirror off an Everton fan’s car. FA Cup. Goodison. Jan 1999. |
20+ years ago one of New Yorks finest pulled a gun on me for climbing over a 3 ft tall metal barrier in Times Sq. But tbf (same holiday) one of his colleagues got us out of a spot of bother after my mate puked up down the side of a cab. Cabbie "That's $100 for soiling a cab" Me: But you can get a car wash for $10. We're being robbed NYC copper: You're not actually being robbed are you sir Me: $100 for 2 minutes in a cab? That's fcking robbery where I come from pal He sorted it too, settled on $25 and everyone was happy (except the cabbie)

Thought that he would see it in the middle of the living room, he didn’t, and he put all of his weight on it barefoot. He screamed and I laughed.

I have a confession to make ... its been bugging me all morning .... on 15:15 - May 9 by stickymockwell | I know I've told this one before but it's my best confession. I was a heavy drinker and had drank all of the booze in the house except for a very expensive bottle of gin my Mother in Law had bought my wife back from a holiday in Edinburgh. I drank it and and replaced it with prison grade gin from the co-op the next day. I could get away with it as it had this special cork. Anyway my wife wanted to open it some time later and was almost wetting herself over the taste of this exquisite gin telling me "You can really taste the difference!". I had to leave the room a few times that night. |
That story/reminisce is excellent reminded me of my dad substituting the contents of a bottle of Advocaat with lemon curd when my grandparents came to stay when I was a kid. My grandma loved it. Reckoned it was the best she’d ever had. She never found out the truth. My parents house was a risky place - they enjoyed practical jokes and nobody, not even total strangers, was safe. My mothers favourite was cling film over the toilet, under the seat. My dad went more for loosening the seat. Anyone paying a visit in the night needed to exercise extreme caution! She’d bake cakes with laxative chocolate to check the effects on my dad, you name it. Well beyond the joke shop stuff, though some supplementary products were always to hand.

I have a confession to make ... its been bugging me all morning .... on 12:33 - May 9 by bluelagos | My overseas charge sheet is quite long. One for parking the wrong way (In South Africa) Fine for driving with arm of window (Malawi) Nigeria fines include illegal U-turn, over loaded car, not driving close enough to car in front, advertising beer and illegally getting into a car. Also got fined for driving before 12pm on "environmental day" when I was supposed to be cleaning the street, exporting ancient goods, failure to prove my yellow fever status, importing a pepper (because it had seeds in it) But unlike everyone else on here I have a police clearance certificate from Interpol, issued on my last working day that means not one of those fines was actually recorded... Almost as if the police in parts of the world are a law unto themselves, completely unaccountable and abuse their powers with impunity. |
Out of interest… why would you require / how do you go about getting a police clearance cert from Interpol? As opposed to the ACRO one.

No idea what an ARCO one is. So when I left Nigeria second time, I didn't get police clearance. That made it difficult to get a teaching role as you need to provide police clearance for everywhere you have lived. When I left the third time, I made sure to get clearance (a letter) from the Lagos police. Then when I left Malawi I went to get similar, only to be told I needed Interpol clearance. They sent me to the Interpol office (in Lilongwe) and I got a certificate of good character or whatever it's called. Still keep them both - just in case they are asked for. Need DRB for a few things as it happens so is handy to have.

That’s interesting and makes sense. I was intrigued as an Interpol Police Clearence sounds like some sort of high profile spy stuff ACRO is one you apply for in the UK for when you are applying for overseas visas etc. You basically get a certificate and it brings up any convictions etc or says you have a clear record but you often submit it with visa applications. The same kind of thing as you are saying basically. [Post edited 9 May 2023 17:21]

It was. When I got to the office I was proper p*ssed off (as if I had been given a parking ticket on a bank holiday) until my colleagues pointed out it was a criminal offense. Still unconvinced I got my guy to check the act and show me... Page 42 - section J https://media.malawilii.org/files/legislation/akn-mw-act-1997-26-eng-2014-12-31. [Post edited 9 May 2023 17:58]

I have a confession to make ... its been bugging me all morning .... on 15:00 - May 9 by Churchman | I managed 88 miles Kent to Waldringfield in 58 minutes, including stopping at the Dartford Tunnel, Copdock roundabout and the lanes to the village from the A12/A14. At one point the car was doing 126mph indicated on the A12 - but the book said it’d only do 122mph so I suspect a 10mph over read! Still, the scenery and junctions approached at a rather rapid rate and the engine made a great sound. Fortunately, it was the late 1980s, Mrs C was asleep, it was Christmas Day and no traffic and there were no speed cameras back in those days. The shame of it. |
Amature speeds. I had to ask Phil to remove the post I created after my little speeding infraction because of the abuse I got and my day in court To give you some idea of the sort of speed involved- The BMW m5 police car took almost 3 miles to catch up with me Thank heavens I’ve grown up

Sorry, best I could manage in my humble little 1985 Toyota Corolla GT! Funnily enough my current car is a lot quicker than that and just getting the London/Ipswich run done at all is a borderline miracle with the A12 as it is.

I have a confession to make ... its been bugging me all morning .... on 14:53 - May 9 by BloomBlue | Whenever I see a car parked on a pavement I will key it, especially if the car is parked stopping wheelchair users from using the pavement. Able-bodied people putting disabled people at risk by force them to use the road instead of the pavement deserve having their cars keyed, over my many years on this planet I've probably key over a 1000 cars parked on pavements. |
I shouldn't really give you an uppie to cancel the downie, keying isn't nice. But you make a good point about pavement obstruction, what I do (if their wing mirrors are not already pulled in) is push the wing mirror into the 'closed' position. And I can't really preach to you on keying as I have broken a couple of ancient wing mirrors doing this.
