Sad to see. Wonder how much his injury hindered him.

He was so highly rated at youth level, a regular for England and iirc was a serious target for Liverpool. Shame to see his career faltering.

I agree, he's had a difficult time but I don't see any reason to sarcastically bring attention to it.

I wish him well and I hope he pushes on.

Has his dad fallen out of love with itfc too? He had a good job here, but left soon after andre and I haven't heard much since. I would have thought he would be over the moon with our season, but I've heard nothing.

Jason was at the fanzone for the Fleetwood beam back, was on stage doing interviews with Milts and Warky so is still very much around waxing lyrical about all things ITFC.

Yep, and for all this talk of his name - being called Dozzell doesn’t get you intoEngland squads or a 7 figure transfer fee as no one at St George’s Park or Loftus Road gives a toss about Jason Dozzell

Absolutely - although Jason was and remains an Ipswich legend, he doesn't have a single England cap (beyond U21s).

Not too many sons of former players make it - good luck to the lad Hirst, and hopefully we can hold onto him permanently.

Even on a free I wouldn’t have him back. No chance he’d get in ahead of Morsy, Luongo, Evans, and I rate Humphreys above him too.

The knee injury, as already mentioned, took so much out of him.

After that injury he had one high-value asset: the ability to spot the moment when two central defenders left sufficient gap for him to thread a crisp slide-rule pass between and beyond them for our striker to nip onto and score.

This season we have seen Morsy, Luongo, Broadhead, Chaplin and Humphreys play similar balls, and they each offer a lot more besides.

No, Jason didn’t get a full England cap. He wasn’t good enough. He was good enough to make about 350 appearances for us and a further 90 odd for Spurs after a £1.9m fee. Plenty more for other clubs later in his long career too

So he had a good long career, some of it at the very top of the game. Not exactly blessed with pace, Jason was a much better footballer than he looked.

I thought on first sight that AD would be better than his father. For whatever reason, he isn’t and won’t be. He’s not alone. Many promising players fail to kick on. It’s how it is. I doubt he will get much time in Ainsworth’s hoofball team - he hasn’t to date and according to Wiki made only 17 appearances under three managers last season.

I suspect Ainsworth might try and unload him, possibly on on loan. Where does he fit? Upper L1, lower Championship? I’ve watched very little QPR so not much of Dozzell either but if I was to hazard a guess, it’ll be that he’s loaned to a better L1 club. A Charlton or a Portsmouth.

Just idle speculation as I’m missing the football season already!

"Where does he fit in"?

Maybe an unambitious L2 club. Colchester? Crawley?

If only he had Jason's physique.

I get what you're saying. But then i wonder what McKenna and the coaches could do with him.

I can't see him able to physically play the pressing game McKenna demands.

It's a no from me

I think this is the biggest thing, it seemed to change his game completely from being a dynamic midfielder who would push on and get involved with attacks (similar style to Bellingham) to an ineffective deep lting playmaker who can make a ridiculous pass once a game but is non existent for the rest of the game.

He made 27 appearances last season, and 36 this season - 37 starts and 26 sub appearances across the 2 seasons so he's been pretty regular. Plus has had the issue he was signed by Warburton, who was replaced by Mick Beale, then Neil Critchley and now has Gareth Ainsworth....so in 2 seasons has gone from one of the managers who plays the most pure football to one that probably plays the worst so be interesting to see where he goes from here as can't see much of a future at QPR.

I think he'll end up as a lower Championship player - and that may go one of two ways, it all totally clicks and he is part of a team that pushes on like a Coventry or it goes the other way and he drops into League 1 and will struggle to escape it.

I do think people underestimate how good a player you need to be to get 100 Championship games under your belt (plus 50 League 1 ones) before turning 24 though.......it's a career that 99% of his peers in the academy wouldn't have, and even when you look at the England squad when he played a year ahead of himself and won the Euro's it's still better than most of that squad.

But for that knee injury, and the subsequent falling apart of Ipswich Town in the wake of Mick's departure, he could have been a contender......c'est la vie
