As much as I love Burgess and Wolfie… Santos has incredible presence and composure.

Absolute beast of a defender.. Huge reason why Bolton only conceded 36 goals in L1 all season.( Bettered only by us on 35 conceded). Thought he was MOM at PR earlier in the season. His posotional play was spot on and gave him an extra yard when covering. He organises them really well. And imo, his presence gives players like Trafford in goal, that little extra confidence and reassurance...On top of all that, he's an absolute "monster", as KM would put it. Which makes him a major threat at the other end from set pieces and corners...
We've got a decent CB pairing in Burgess and Woolfy. But for me, Santos is an upgrade in both players. Although, perhaps not massively..And let's not forget, central defence is the only area KM hasn't recruited in, since his arrival. So it will be interesting to see if he does during this window.. If we did , hypothetically, recruit Santos, Id definitely see it as strengthening. |  | | |

I think a good player 27 so a good age I wouldn't be against it.

I know why folks are doing this and there are going to be players we’d like to bring up from L1 over time, target buy cheap and sell high in years to come. However we need to stabilise quickly then push to higher levels, we can’t afford too many players having to find their feet at a higher level. 1-2 L1 players at a time. | |

By that logic we'd need to replace our entire squad with players from a higher division. Bolton only conceded one more than us this season, and then one further goal across two legs in the playoffs. They have an excellent defence, and it's perfectly reasonable to consider the merits of one of the top performers in it. If he's not what we need, fine. But the fact that he's currently playing in league one can't possibly be conclusive. |  | | |

He's a very good L1 defender. Quick, big and as you say and decent positional sense.
Not staying he wouldn't be decent but one of the primary qualities we will be lookin for with the way we play is passing and comfortable on the ball (obviously alongside defending). Not sure it's Santos' strong point though haven't seen enough of him. He didn't look bad on the ball granted.
I would imagine our strategy will be similar to what we've seen. Looking for quality higher up with future resale. We weren't signing anyone from L2 and hoping they make the grade. Don't see us 'gambling' on L1 making the grade now I'm terms of transfers. | |

Also worth remembering our starting 11 is full of quality players already so to find better players we will be targeting top end Championship players or younger players from PL clubs.

I think the Jan window where the additions all came from the leagues above us is instructive. I see us following a similar path this summer. Albeit we'll be in the championship so will be looking to the top of the division/prem. |  | | |

.... on that point, Alfie May was the stand-out player for Cheltenham this year; took his goal against us particularly well, along with some other nuts stuff (scored from 45 yards vs Posh, springs immediately to mind...) Not sure he fits the Hirst/ Ladapo role as it stands, but would be interesting to see what McK/ Pert could do with him. 29 though....
Overall, however, I'm in broad agreement - think we're going to be aiming a lot higher.
In a similar vein, El Miz was player of the year for Orient; unitl recently you'd think that was the kind of player we'd be all over - and, sadly, I think he'll definitely be moving on, recent Derby / Watford interest refers. (He's better than Derby, I reckon...) |  | | |

See, I see Santos as a Championship player, playing in L1. There are quite a few of them in the division. And Id agree that the younger, improver type, is more the profile we'd look for. But imo, you can't stuff the squad with "improvers". You only need to look at the impact Luongo had on our team, to see, that a few hardened warriors, can be of benefit. Santos has played plenty of football, at a decent sized club, in front of 25k supporters.. He ticks a lot of boxes for me, as an out and out defender. Obviously KM looks for a bit more than that, in the way we pass around at the back. But having converted Burgess into a competent ball playing CB. I think he could easily improve a player of Santos quality...... Of course, this is all a hypothetical conversation. He's a Bolton player. Doubt he'd be top of our list of targets, But for me, he'd be a useful addition to any Championship squad. | | | |
