I'm not sure I can agree with everyone saying he was great, as at the start he was a huge mistake waiting to happen, as he made numerous mistakes and got lucky. Good shot stopping at the end though. Just hoping his confidence is up now and he starts to control things a bit more and is calmer on the ball.

I agree, though he did do what you need from a deputy keeper. I failed to mention that on my posts about him as it sounded like I was having a moan about thing. Lets see if confidence and minutes helps him settle into the task at hand.

I think you are right there. I thought it was noticeable in the post Exeter dressing room scenes how he was quietly watching the mayhem from the back.

I'd like to see that photo prominently displayed on news stories, Vas deserves it and he's showing us his inner lion - the Václav Hladký who is going to help ITFC roar onwards and upwards this season.

Think he admitted it just after he joined that the move was huge for him and almost didn’t was here. Yesterday looked like first day at school nerves, but there is a very good keeper in there | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Here’s hoping that McKenna has a very difficult decision to make when Walton is fit again. Vaz will only get better after that display yesterday.

HLADKY on 20:38 - Aug 6 by BloomBlue | I would argue a few players looked similar early on, even Morsey and Luongo's distribution was lacking in that first 15-20 mins. He's playing basically his first league game in what over a season, the team started nervous that is always going to make it a difficult start for him. |
Absolutely. I think the Sunderland press was just really good and often there just wasn't the 'easy' out ball to a player in space. Morsy and/or Luongo often drop back towards the defensive line to become the player to receive it but they weren't allowed to do that early on. It just meant that eveyone playing out from the back had to be absolutely spot on with the passes and I think they all fluffed their lines at one point or another.

Surely KM and others keep praising his footwork as he actually is bad at it and they're just trying to boost his confidence. I just haven't seen any sign that he's comfortable with the ball.

I agree with Frimley's comments - Hladky's obvious lack of confidence made the entire team nervous in the first half and the more he was given the ball to his feet the worse his distribution became, until we scored. His second half performance was much improved thankfully and that reflected on the team's performance.

Putting it all on him is over the top in my opinion. The whole back line and midfield misplaced passes or stayed on the ball too long when trying to play out from the back. Hladky often didn't have a good option for a short pass. I don't think he went longer significantly more later on either and we were still playing out from the back near the end of the game

Sorry but that's wrong Many times the ball went to him. He had davis. Burgess and wolfy free. He hesitated and then passed to morsh who had a player up his backside. Then wolfy who is our best best balling cb was continously free buy hladky kept fumbling and looked for Burgess or davis. He's also got this horrible habit of trying to trap a ball with the underside of his boot rather than inside of his foot and almost came a cropper in the first minutes.

It's not just about passing to someone in space - if the player receiving the ball and those around him aren't in a position to break the press then they'll be left with little option but to play it long (in which case Hladky might as well just punt it down field himself). Passing it to Morsy when he has someone close to him gives us an option of getting a man over. It was something we did a lot last season. We just struggled to do that yesterday because Sunderland were very good at closing down the options - players at this level are quicker at closing the options and are more switched on to it. I'm really not convinced that Walton would have have looked significantly more comfortable playing against that press yesterday.

I'm really not convinced that Walton would have have looked significantly more comfortable playing against that press yesterday Exactly why I said in the summer i wouldn't be surprised to see a new keeper come in with that being a key requirement for our game especially on a higher league with teams that are better at the press.

I think with the constraints of FFP and with other areas needing an increase in quality first I'd be surprised if it's an area we strengthen in this window. Both Walton and Hladky have improved this facet of their game over the last 12 months and we need to hope that both continue to do so. Everyone took a while to get used to the pace of their press yesterday and I think it will be a few games before we see whether the players can adapt and continue to improve to meet the new standard.

I think slicker may be that signing tbh. Looks the part with his feet. Working with the two will help no end too.

I think that's a 12/18 month project for Slicker although injuries could mean he gets his chance earlier. I agree that's why he's been brought in.

I'm sure he's played at 50,000+ fans at Ibrox and nearly 60,000 fans at Parkhead playing for St. Mirren. [Post edited 7 Aug 2023 17:44]
