Anyone with teenage children 13:20 - Aug 15 with 4467 views | GlasgowBlue | Please do everything to keep them from experimenting with drugs. My daughter was at a rave on Saturday night. One of her best friends was given an E and was taken ill at the railway station. He died later that night. Another boy at the same rave died at the venue.

Fortunately, my two children (now 20 and 22) have had it drummed into them not to dabble at all. And I've particularly stressed the idea that you have no idea what you're taking.

Been quite a while but the people I knew who were into that scene and did E usually had test kits on them for this very reason. And GB, really sorry to hear that. Hope your daughter is holding up OK.

Anyone with teenage children on 14:02 - Aug 15 with 4085 views | blueasfook | I hope they find the PoS who is selling dodgy pills. I took a lot of pills back in the day (not proud of it!), but thankfully never had a dodgy one. I support the argument for legalisation of recreational drugs. Kids are gonna get their hands on them, no matter what. So if it was all legalised then they'd be guaranteed to be safe and would also take away the profits from organised criminals. It really is a win for everyone concerned, but this country is far too backward thinking to implement such a thing.

Anyone with teenage children on 14:18 - Aug 15 with 3963 views | The_Flashing_Smile | That's horrible, and so horrible for your daughter. You must be hugely thankful that she didn't have one herself, which can so easily happen around peers (not even necessarily peer pressure, just seeing your mates do it and FOMO). I've tried all sorts but only from 'reputable' dealers if that makes sense, through people who've been using said dealer for years. Not foolproof by any means, but I certainly wouldn't take something from an unknown at a rave.

I've never taken drugs but I agree something along those lines is needed. The problem is that when the Scottish government recently said it was looking into proposals along these lines, they were shot down by both main parties.

Our govt recently made it difficult for festivals to test drugs too, which makes it even more unsafe for young people taking drugs. I think Parklife used to test stuff that was confiscated and if anything was found that was dodgy then they'd put out an alert to people at the festival to warn them. But this year they couldn't do it because the govt introduced new "special licences" to make it more difficult.

Yep, and aside from anything malicious, accidents can happen particularly when you are young. Friends of mine once picked up what they thought was a large amount of mdma from their regular dealer before a rave, only to discover later that they had mistakenly been given speed. No lasting consequences, but several of them ended up very unwell in the short term.

She’s been inconsolable for the last few days but she’s pretty resilient so will be ok. She also has a twin sister fir support. She’s studying law at uni and is now determined to prosecute every drug dealer in the country. So her rage is a way of coping. I’m like you, never been into drugs, despite the industry I formally walked in being full of Coke heads. My Mrs is similarly anti drugs so we’ve drummed into our kids the negatives whilst letting them make their own decisions, Must be awful for the boy’s parents at the meoment. Anyone with teenage children on 16:09 - Aug 15 with 3477 views | MeenoITFC | Really sorry to hear that devastating news! As one poster above said, it is inevitable for humans growing up to dabble with things in life. Being around the music and club scene i've seen many scenarios. The UK have to really change the legislation on there take to recreational drugs. In most European countries (Holland for a great example) they have drug testing machines on sight at EVERY festival and 'rave' club to make sure what you are taking is safe. On another tangent, charging £4 for water in clubs and $8 in ibiza, then they wonder why people do collapse and are dehydrated. And yes! I hope the producer of the pills is found and action taken, with information to the public on what pill it was and to be careful.

Anyone with teenage children on 20:02 - Aug 15 with 3145 views | BanksterDebtSlave | A timely reminder with result day on Thursday for Junior and then perhaps Leeds in September. It's going to be quite the eye opener after sleepy, rural Suffolk. She is ridiculously sensible when it comes to drugs.....if only she knew how bad her parents were! Wishing your daughter strength at a challenging time GB.

Ther eis merit in the argument, but the idea that it makes any of them "safe" is plainly very very flawed.
Anyone with teenage children on 08:59 - Aug 18 with 2232 views | Swansea_Blue | Missed this last night, otherwise I’d have replied then. Just awful to hear and what a tragic waste. I can’t imagine what the families of those boys are going through. I hope your girl’s holding up as best she can. I’m sure you’ll be giving her all the support she needs; keep an eye on her wellbeing over the longer term too, as reactions to grief/loss can change over time and be quite a delayed thing. Sounds like she’s in good hand though with a loving family and close sibling. Best wishes to all of you buh.

I'd wager the sum of all deaths linked to recreational drugs is still only a fraction of those linked to alchohol. That's a bit of a whataboutism argument I know but if alchohol was introduced to society today, I have no doubt it would be made illegal.

The harm from alcohol is certainly a very big issue, and not just in terms of health. But I would argue that drinking in moderation poses less risks to one's heath than drugs because it is less mind/body altering.. [Post edited 18 Aug 2023 9:49]
