Putin at it again on 19:31 - Aug 23 by HARRY10 | The question still remains, who benefits. It is too easy to see Ivan as some barbarian all too willing to kill folk. The old maxim 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'certainly holds true here. The Wagner chap had been sent in exile (Trotsky). So what event, or upcoming event triggered his death now ? Assuming Russia was responsible and he was killed. |
I would imagine the exile deal defused the immediate problem but that Putin couldn’t afford for Prigozhin to be seen to be getting away with what he did. There were certainly plenty of Russia experts at the time forecasting Prigozhin wasn’t going to be living a long happy life! The Russians seem to have moved on from the hospital window routine of dealing with Putins enemies anyway.
Putin at it again on 19:52 - Aug 23 with 1076 views | WicklowBlue | It's going to be interesting how the remains of Wagner respond to this. They were super loyal to Prigozhin. Reports that Wagners top command were on the same plane, if true how did they not see that as a huge strategic mistake?

Putin. As Guthers says above, spreads the fear and respect and the message ' don't fk with me.' in a very public way.

Putin is just channelling his inner Ivan the Terrible. It's reminder of one of the key continuities in Russian life: cruel, sadistic leadership.

Putin at it again on 18:38 - Aug 23 by tonybied | This is why I don't understand why Prigozhin backed down when heading for Moscow, he was a dead man from that moment. I'm more surprised it's taken this long to happen to be honest. [Post edited 23 Aug 2023 18:39]

The whole thing makes no sense, you would imagine Prigohzin to be a highly tactical and astute chap, and as you say once he did what he did and backed down, he was a dead man. He must of been military aware and would surely have been watching his back constantly, to be flying in a small plane over Russia sounds like suicide really. I would not be surprised if as others have said he is still in Africa or somewhere out of the way.

In fairness, if they are wagner, they are murdering mercenaries....

All bar the flight crew and the flight attendant were Wagner. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

As opposed to Putin, who is just a straight up murderer and war criminal. Much better. [Post edited 23 Aug 2023 23:28]

Putin at it again on 19:09 - Aug 23 by Churchman | How about totally destroy an aircraft with a few nobodies on it. Declare him a passenger and meanwhile shoot him into a hole in the ground in the middle of nowhere. Reputation intact through tragic accident, problem solved. I love a conspiracy theory with no evidence whatsoever. |
Will be interesting how it plays out. He owned three planes and was known to switch out at the very last second to a different jet/mode of transport. Clearly it is in his interest to be presumed dead right now (if he isn’t) and his own group are playing that line.

What is crazy is that if you go into Twittersphere… on 08:57 - Aug 24 with 638 views | unstableblue | … then the conspiracy theories and rumours are emerging that this was indeed not Putin, or that it’s a hoax and Prigozhin is still alive. Russian bots abound. But you know they’ll be a part of the population who’ll lap it up
