Who would improve us the most? 10:48 - Sep 20 with 1648 viewsCopfordBlue

If you could pick one ex-player who has played for us since we were last relegated from the Premier League and put them into our current squad who would you choose and why?

John Wark in his prime in centre midfield. Him and Morsey would be formidable.

Darren Bent

Reason is I think it's the area of the pitch where we're less proven, hence Scarlett coming in. I would pick either a central midfielder to partner Morsy, or a forward in terms of where we could do with a proven addition. But you can never have too many goalscorers, and Bent was pure class. Pace, athleticism, work rate, finishing, threat on a counter attack. I think he would fly in this side.

He would but I meant since 2002/03, only because every one of the players in the great teams Wark played in during his first spell would be a nailed on starter in the current team.

If they need to be McKenna-type players then any one from De Vos, Walters, Cresswell, Carlos Edwards

Just one small problem; sell their houses to who, Ben? Fcking Aquaman?

Bent for sheer pace and finishing, or Miller for goals from midfield (although I'm not sure he gets in ahead of Morsy or Mass!)

Pablo or Shefki.

This isn't a question, this is an answer.

Pablo's hold up play, cleverness, pivot point idealness and absolute fkn class - but may not quite have the work rate (although it was a lot better than some 'think'.)

Shefki's bullying of centre halves and work rate (not sure if he could keep that going for 90, but 60... no problem)

I'd have loved to have seen how his career would have gone under KM

I see you beat me to the punch in nominating Walters - tried to think of the hardest working attacking player we've had since 2002

Jim Magilton in his pomp.
If we miss anything, it's a centre mid that can create AND score a goal from nothing.

Darren Bent would be fun.

McGoldrick.
Not only a really good technical player but also extremely clever on the ball.

His ability would be a real asset on this team.

I'd say Martyn Waghorn or David McGoldrick, as think they would both fit into the McKenna ethic and quality.

Hadn't seen your answer before mine... but definitely agree with your reasoning.

Loads of them. Rhodes, Wickham, Miller, Reuser, Currie, Walters, Murphy, Dos Santos, Civelli, Colback, Mings, Cresswell, Berra, MaCauley, Bart, Bishop and there are more.

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

Daryl Murphy from 14/15.

The bloke was absolutely deadly. Pace, power and presence & precision.

Also remember his braces away at Forest & Brentford that year.

I was also thinking the 27 goals a season version of Daryl Murphy
