Their average crowd that season was lower than ours. (16,154 v 18,223) Don't let anyone tell you historically they get bigger crowds.

The crowds for both sides are remarkable compared to 30 years ago, in 1995/96 we were getting between 9 and 11 thousand most games and the derby attendances were 17 up there and 20 down here

Not to rain on our parade, but they are slightly ahead of us on historical average attendances. It's 18,125 to 18, 062 (making us 23rd and 24th best-supported teams in English football history). Positions might reverse in the next couple of seasons mind, we're currently averaging 2,800 more than them and if that pattern held, we'd overtake them in about 38 home league games.

I mean, Leeds has a metropolitan population of about a million, yet they bang on about taking 3000 fans to away games. [Post edited 21 Sep 2023 17:36]

In our derby it has been made an issue by Norwich fans really, who liked it as a tool (once they started regularly getting bigger crowds than us) as it wasn't very fruitful for them to look at trophies/seasons in Europe etc.

I keep reading over social media etc on 17:44 - Sep 21 with 2863 views | PioneerBlue | Does it really matter what Fch£wit on social media says? In an era where focusing on one game at a time is the mantra, shouldn’t we focus on what we can control and concern ourselves with what goes on at PR rather than further afield. Nodge is nothing to us unless we want them to be a distraction.

POTD right there. I have an interest in football and all clubs generally, but willy waving about attendances seems a bit daft. Likewise, wishing players career ending injuries just because they play for a rival team seems a bit daft too. All this sort of stuff does is perpetuate a cycle of hate.

Pioneer, you sound like Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks! saying "can't we all just get along?" before being blasted to smithereens! Nothing wrong with laughing at a club who THINK theirs is better than ours. By whatever measure, they are just wrong And when you keep being wrong, it's ok to point out how wrong they are & how silly/funny it looks!

and title contenders in the 88-89 season before tailing away and finishing 4th. That would have qualified us for Europe. Indeed in at least one other of the seasons between 86 and 89 we would also have qualified based on final league position. Those anti English, 'never our fault' scousers have much to answer for!!

...nobody could afford f'all for a chunk of the late 80s and early to mid-90s, that, along with footballs rep in England pre-Prem and that's why people weren't showing up.

There is nothing wrong with perpetuating a cycle of hate. We hate them, they hate us, we are going to continue to hate them. My dad hated them, so did his dad, I do and my son will, and so it goes on. Love the Town, hate Norwich, it goes hand in hand, its the yin and the yan and the cycle of life i'm afraid.

Obviously they have slowly swelled ahead after years of mediocrity from ourselves Their support has been good for some time but it's far easier to hold onto the attendances when performance has generally been positive
