Pleased that two long-gone came to mind, but flawed by another that I'd never noticed before so 8/9 [Post edited 13 Oct 2023 14:21]

Football ⓧ Geography quiz on 13:29 - Oct 13 with 3423 views | Radlett_blue | Why no Gateshead? There had been a Gateshead A.F.C. in the Football League from 1930 to 1960, which had folded before Gateshead United had been established.

If it were my quiz, technically I'd agree with you that it was an omission. But as a fan, if Ipswich Town sunk without trace, then resurrected as A.F.C. ipswich, playing on the Alderman Rec, I think to me they would still be "The Town" in just the way that some surviving Hereford United, Wimbledon and Bury fans follow their phoenix clubs. Not so many Gateshead A.F.C. fans left, I'd imagine. Just shows how difficult a task our friendly compiler sets himself.

Middlesbrough Ironoplis no longer exist & Durham City disappeared before being reformed, but they still counted as answers.

So the former, at least, had no successor. And you've just allowed anyone who reads through the thread to add two to their score (actually, I did that my self for a few seconds before realising that I'd given the game away and deleted said evidence!)

They are there! Typing their name will bring up "South Shields / Gateshead" as the club was based in (and known as) South Shields before moving to Gateshead in 1930 - as South Shields, they joined the League in 1919. I've amended the bullet point caveats a bit so that some things are hopefully clearer, including mentioning that a couple of the other clubs (the two beginning with D) folded after they left the League and are yet to return.

No worries! The whole South Shields / Gateshead thing is a bit messy - a new South Shields club was formed when the original moved to Gateshead, and that replacement team later moved to Gateshead itself before also folding. The current Gateshead (6th in the National League) and South Shields (3rd in the National League North) are both going well this season.

Not the best day for Julio Arca's South Shields today - they were 2-0 up inside 14 minutes at Warrington Town (who played virtually the entire match with 10 men) and still didn't win, the match finishing 2-2. Meanwhile, Gateshead, managed by Mike Williamson, are into the first round proper of the FA Cup after a 3-0 win away to Stourbridge.

They've deliberately tried to troll people by not having a lot of bigger clubs?
