I would not be surprised if we did try but he seemed sold on Plymouth.
Morgan Whittakar on 13:57 - Oct 29 with 5260 views | MK1 | I think we showed an interest in the summer, but he didn't really want to come here for whatever reason. He is a decent player at this level and I would have loved to see him play in our front line.

Morgan Whittakar on 14:22 - Oct 29 with 5129 views | Vegtablue | Badly wanted him last January. He has the most chance-creating carries in the league now, crazy that Swansea sold for £1m. He caused real problems as an orthodox winger on the left in the second half as well, when I'd only seen him before in the Broadhead role on the other side. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Morgan Whittakar on 16:46 - Oct 29 with 4841 views | ArnieM | Town tried very hard I believe to sign him. But the player only wanted to return to Plymouth. Now you could say, good on for being loyal to the club you’re on loan too, or you could view it another way perhaps. If you were a player snd two clubs , Plymouth and Ipswich both wanted you which one would you go to if you wanted to improve and potential stand to progress further in the EFL, ( given the coaching and backing at both these clubs)? So is Whittaker loyal, or dare I say it, maybe lacking a little bit of ambition? Or is it he just feels more confident/ comfortable being the big fish in a little pond, as opposed joining a squad that has players with certain qualities which means he is more likely having to fight for his place? No slight is intended btw, on pcfc!

A top, top player on 16:50 - Oct 29 with 4823 views | Dyland | Fair play to PAFC for getting him back on a permanent deal. Who on earth do Swansea have to make him surplus to requirements? 1 million is silly.

Tried to sign him in January, or rather ahead of January, but he wasn't keen for a couple of reasons. Don't think we were in the running for him in the summer.

Very odd indeed. Especially when they’ve been struggling for quality. But then he looked poor whenever he had a chance down here (not that he was given much opportunity). He didn’t fit Russell Martin’s plans at all and they only brought him back to sell him, screwing over the 2nd half of his season in the process by failing to sell him. He’s appreciated and supported at Plymouth and that seems to make all the difference for him.

Think he said something about Ipswich in one of his interviews. Basically saying it was Plymouth or he would stay with Swansea. When Swansea recalled him, he said he hoped Plymouth beat us to the title. Not surprising really. Something along those lines anyway.

Morgan Whittakar on 19:53 - Oct 29 with 4262 views | PrideOfTheEast | Clearly decent but several times he didn’t make the most of situations. Would have him here in a heartbeat, as think McKenna would improve him, but I wasn’t overly impressed.

Yes thanks i remember that now but thats only showing some loyalty to the club he had been on loan to which is to be admired . Maybe he still holds a bit of a grudge that our intrest meant he was recalled and so missed on being part of a League winning side ? Whatever he is a really good player with a chance of a big future .

Agreed, and this isn't sour grapes, but apart from one very good goal, did he do anything? Look at what broadhead, chaplin and burns (and even harness this season to be fair to him) give us in terms of pressing and creating in addition to goals - whittaker's nowhere near their level.

I think in fairness if you fit a teams style of playing, are enjoying yourself and get on with the existing manager. Why would you risk going somewhere else, there's no guarantees on transfers, he had a good thing going at Plymouth? Of course he should fit our system under McKenna, I imagine he'd be in direct competition with Chaplin in particular but would also compete with Broadhead, Harness and others [Post edited 30 Oct 2023 9:55]

OK each to their own take and i was not suggesting i would swap Broady for him . I wonder if we had signed Morgan would we have laid out the cash for Nathan ? who knows .

I agree for me he's a nice player to watch, but we're very much a system team and I don't think his level of work rate would fit with our system at all. In a straight shootout with Broadhead it's Broadhead everytime, and our right side tends to be a very different profile.

I thought he was the best player on the pitch on Saturday. Excellent player that would be superb as an option in this team.

Westy's mentioned a couple of times how brandon williams wants to overlap but can't when burns or hutchinson is in front of him. If whittaker was on our right wing, who only wanted to cut inside and shoot from miles out, it could give us another dimension. I just think he's a bit of one-trick pony. Great trick mind you.
