Great manager and character in English football, probably left the England job too early to be honest, FA were a nightmare to work with for him. They got their man Hoddle in and we whimpered out of World Cup 98. At least they changed the culture of the English team though…. It’s lead us to huge success since!

A very bizarre description of the 98 World Cup. Hoddle hardly the FA going for the establishment candidate, even before he went and talked himself out of a job.
His England team felt like the birth of the modern English team. That game against the Netherlands, I'd never seen anything approaching that from an England team in my lifetime at that stage.
I also enjoyed his punditry, he seemed like the kind of guy you'd enjoy going down the pub with.
Was too young to remember Italia 90, so for me 96 was the first real tournament in my life time after the Taylor debacles. Some great memories and still remember the first (unfortunately of many to come) football heartbreaks with England and Town. Pretty sure the BBC credits rolled to the La’s walk away after the penalty shoot out.
RIP.

RIP Terry Venables ...his England were fabulous to watch during Euro96 despite his reputation ...(as was Bobby's at Italia90)
Remember reading somewhere of Bobby's recollection of filming a Walkers crisps TV ad as an angel & Terry as a devil, where Bobby said to Terry something along the lines of "yeah, they've got this about right!"
