Been checking out the background to this, and apparently it was all a bit last minute, hence the oddness of it.
Colman's are really struggling this year, so they signed up Chris Sutton for the ad, which was originally scheduled to be shot in a Christmassy shop setting at a tradition meat counter. Delia, in a saucy Christmas elf outfit, was supposed to be seen applying mustard to a range of different meats, with Chris taking a nibble of each of Delia's offerings and proclaiming how much lovelier they tasted with her hot sauce on them.
They were gathered at the training ground ready to head off to the shoot location when, unfortunately, one of the junior production staff who had not been fully briefed mentioned the word 'Butcher'. Sutton started quivering, turned a funny shade of yellow and refused to get in the car, so they had to shoot that odd version at the training ground instead. | |
