Tuanzebe will play against Leeds on 16:17 - Dec 16 by Herbivore | You can say a bad word about Woolf, it's just the chances are you'll be wrong. He's been excellent for us this season and find it bizarre he's being singled out today to be honest. |
If you read my post properly Instead of just hit the down vote button then you'll see I said Woolfie did well today! Was one of his better games for us... I'm not the only one to criticise Woolfie... and if you can't see that Tuanzebe is better than Woolfie then football clearly isn't for you is it... Also, perish the thought that someone has a difference of opinion to you... Doesn't mean that they're wrong, just because they have a different opinion to you.. you really are that up yourself that you think your opinion or judgement is correct and that everyone else is wrong... Where is your tolerance of other people's beliefs or opinions?! Who are you, to tell me, or anyone else that they're wrong?! I haven't criticised Woolfie, but news flash, he isn't as good as you seem to think he is!!! Take the blue specs off...

He hits dozy? Snow White fair enough, but not the dwarves!

It just come across that some seem to think he's to blame for every goal conceded, whilst not acknowledging that he is a key component in the way we move the ball forward. Perhaps there's a slightly overboard reaction both ways - with the praise and the criticism. In truth, he's a good defender in a system which asks a lot of the back four. Is Tuanzebe better? Considering his pedigree, he should be. It's quite a surprise we got him, and no doubt down to McKenna's connections.

I mean, today, I haven't criticised Woolfie... I said he played well today.. I just think that, unfortunately a lot of people seem to think he's better than he actually is.. that's fine, that's fair enough.. he's one of our own, that does at times cloud people's judgement... He's an adequate defender at championship level.. Tuanzebe, if fit is better than Woolf, as you say, the pedigree would suggest that!! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He plays in the most attacking team in the league, starting most of our attacks and managing a really high line. We’ve let in 28 goals all season. He’s better than “adequate”.

Tuanzebe will play against Leeds on 16:29 - Dec 16 by pointofblue | Agreed, Woolfenden was left horribly exposed. He made the right decision in moving to try and mark Idah as he was more central, but really Burgess should have picked him up, which would have allowed Woolfenden to move out to Rowe. Saying that, Rowe being on the floor probably didn't help the decision making; he could have been overlooked at that point. A lack of organisation and I think that is something which can be worked on. |
Rowe was clearly offside, but agree both CBs moving to the left and no Clark cover was a mistake. Got the match ups wrong. Edit: typo [Post edited 16 Dec 2023 20:41]

Tuanzebe will play against Leeds on 16:21 - Dec 16 by ArnieM | It was when the ball came into our box. WHEN our defence needs to defend in the area , it struggles. |
How do you think they reduced them to 4 shots Arnie. By dealing with them.. Also.. the defence wasn't the reason we conceded the 2nd goal.. that was our striker.

Think people are going a bit OTT about the defence today Nodge are third for goals scored. We reduced them to 4 shots.

Tuanzebe will play against Leeds on 16:20 - Dec 16 by ArnieM | Axel is by far the better defender and I think McKenna has saved him and Williams for the tougher games v Leeds and Leicester and allowed the “ one if our own” players have their derby game. Axel will become the first choice Rt CB, that’s what’s he’s been brought in for. He’s just being nursed through he’s graduated return to football. |
KM would not just give “the one of our own” players the derby game. If you think that then you have absolutely no idea how he operates and frankly no idea about how we go about things nowadays.

Agreed, as were Burgess and Davis. When it comes to Woolfenden, for all the criticism he gets, I can't think of any game in the last couple of years where you could say that it was him at fault for any of the goals we've conceded. Maybe, Oxford is one, where he missed a tackle for their goal, but so did a couple of players behind him. And when it comes to Clarke (or Williams), I think our right back has a difficult task because they are often left to pick up two players when Burgess and Woolfenden shift across to cover Davis who is often very high up the pitch. Yesterday was a case in point, especially in the first half. But that's the way we play, and I (and I am sure McKenna) wouldn't want it any other way. [Post edited 17 Dec 2023 8:35]

Tuanzebe will play against Leeds on 15:58 - Dec 16 by pointofblue | The reason why Woolfenden wasn't closer to Rowe for the first goal? Because he was moving towards Idah in the middle of the box, who Burgess had stepped away from. As the cross came in Burgess and Davis were marking no one, and Woolfenden had Idah and Rowe with no support from Clarke, who was out of position (0:46 in the Sky highlights). Could argue there was a lack of organisation. At the time, I thought Woolfenden should have closed down quicker. Watching back, I'd say he was the least to blame of the back four. And I agree, for the most part Burgess has been superb this season. |
Yes, a general lack of organisation if we're being brutally honest. When the ball is rolling out towards Stacy there's two or three seconds of dead time where any one or more of our defenders (including Morsy and Luongo) should be looking around and barking orders for who to pick up. Davis and Luongo both drift off their men at the back post towards the ball, Burgess is already in a zonally good position front post, Woolfy somewhat excusably ignores Rowe lying on the ground, Clarke does his best to make up the ground and is unlucky to be knocked flat for the rebound. Morsy and Woolfy have the best views and ideally one of them should have taken control, but Davis and Luongo need to be a bit more spatially aware there too. Louder and more communicative is what we need I think, plus a little more looking around.
