So yet another player we tried to sign in the summer… on 11:06 - Jan 3 by SomethingBlue | It's encouraging though that we stick at it with long-term targets and, presumably, maintain an open line to show we want & would value them if the chance arose. People appreciate that. Far from the first time we've had one like this, as you point out. [Post edited 3 Jan 2024 11:08]

This. KM and the team identify who they want based on whichever stats they use, not kneejerk reactions to circumstances. Even if they fail to get the individual when they want them, a positive relationship is maintained and its often a case of better late than never. Professional, cost effective and planned.

Stansfield is another in that position, of course.

Pleasing to see no panic reactions to the acquisition of players. Still refreshing after so long with a different approach!

So yet another player we tried to sign in the summer… on 11:14 - Jan 3 by tractorboy1978 | I don't think we've shown much versatility at all when it comes to the centre forward. In the 3 behind, yes there is variation depending what attributes we think fit the game, but it seems pretty obvious what we want week in, week out in the number 9 role. Maybe that is because we haven't had an alternative option of sufficient quality, but I think we are going to want to have two similar options to Hirst (with decent mobility) in the squad in the run in just in case one of them picks up an injury. There hasn't been much rotation as we've been so reliant on Hirst so far this season, in the absence of anyone else that McKenna really rates IMO. Ladapo has done OK, not knocking the bloke, but he's clearly not been fancied as Hirst has been flogged for 70 minutes game in, game out as a result. The suggestion of Moore & Stansfield would be 2 additions that I would be quite happy with tbh, if that's what we ended up with. Bournemouth aren't dissimilar to us in how they set up. Similar shape, counter pressing, lots of width, attacking fullbacks, plenty of balls into the box. A bit more direct than us. Moore looked a proper handful last time I saw him play, good in the air, good with his feet, nice touch. And not as immobile as some are suggesting (albeit not the movement Hirst has).

nice not to just sign squad filler to cover injuries, but real competition. Can see why the Brighton lad has been brought in, to challenge Broadhead and overtake him if he's good enough. Broadhead has been a bit in and out this year, whether that his level or his body is getting used to the rigours of playing week in week out for the best part of a year i don't know.

So yet another player we tried to sign in the summer… on 10:32 - Jan 3 by itfcsuth | Jay Stansfield & Kieffer Moore for me. Two strikers, two different profiles. Would be very happy with that. |
Rated Kieffer Moore. But his age, Salary and that he completely doesn't fit our press mean that is a complete non starter. Not sure we can afford two. Now we have Sarmiento it might be Broadhead +1 up front. More likely someone like Stansfield and a loan I guess. I'd rather Bishop than Moore now. Longer term, resale value and fits the system better. Funnily enough they had a similar trajectory

So yet another player we tried to sign in the summer… on 11:17 - Jan 3 by strikalite | Agree, look at the game on Saturday as just an example, Stoke in a low block.and very hard to break down, that is our plan B with a big focal point to come off the bench, something to cross the ball for, someone physical.. |
Yep, and I think it's something we'll see more of us we face some lesser opposition who perhaps understand our threats a little more. Stoke was unique in that once they went down to 10 they were particularly defensive and with a really deep line, but that'll happen regardless. We swung countless hopeful balls into the box against Stoke, particularly from Clarke, Morsy and Hutchinson, but when your central forward as it was at the time was Nathan Broadhead, its unlikely he was ever going to cause too many problems or create us anything from the 2nd balls. Pretty telling that despite the circumstances Ladapo was only introduced on 87 minutes. Stoke had shown no intent to win the game for 20 minutes prior to that. 2 forwards needed, I wouldn't be averse at all to someone like Moore being one of them on loan. He's experienced, will know Burns and Broadhead already from Wales duty, a handful and a decent option IMO.

Yep totally agree and the Wales connection hadn't even crossed my mind... I'd go for him if he'd be prepared to play that role, certainly an upgrade on Ladapo right now.. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It is quite telling that we don't give up on players and persist with the right people Hirst, Taylor, Sarmiento all deals which we've either revisited or pursued over more than one window. I'd imagine under previous regimes we'd have given up, cut contact with the player and rushed to get someone else in

Urban myth. | |

I think a short term loan would be feasible - don't see a loan being financially an issue - just depends whether we would cover what B'mouth would want us to - ultimately a loan deal would go to the highest bidder. Interesting about Bishop - 27 now so not sure about huge resale in the future - but a very similar stature to Moore with less pedigree - and yet KMc has been a long admirer of Bishop - so it may well be a type of profile we are wanting to add.

So yet another player we tried to sign in the summer… on 10:13 - Jan 3 by Kieran_Knows | My guess is that it was Brighton that maybe thought going to an established club like WBA was a better move for him than coming to a team that had just been promoted. |
Lets be honest, WBA are a good side in this league and we have in effect nabbed one of their better players at the half way point. If we just signed a couple of forward now, one to cover Hirst and another to likely replace Ladapo and the departed Scarlett I am happy with that.
