It should be given to Alan Bates.

Since when have we gone after those in positions of authority for like...anything?

She has lied and misled MPs on numerous occasions and her employees and legal team did exactly that in numerous criminal court cases thus causing numerous innocent people to spend time in jail and in some cases to commit suicide.

In any decent society she would we held to account through the legal system for her actions. But we all know she won't be - cos that's not how it works.

And she'll be forever able to hide behind the fact she has never been found guilty of anything, like Duckenfield or Saville before her.

Doesn't mean she's not a piece of sh1t though - sometimes all the victims are left with is a TV show and public opinion.

I strongly suspect the only people to taste prison food will be the subpostmasters. British justice for you.

You’re sadly right.

But has a court etc found her guilty of lying or deliberately allowing innocent people to go to prison by not disclosing information?

Based on what I’ve read she has a lot to answer for - but that accountability should be in a court of law rather than public opinion.

You think there's a law for "deliberately allowing innocent people to go to prison by not disclosing information" ?

I must have missed the prosecutions of various police officers after the Birmingham 6, Guildford 4, Tottenham 3 cases were shown to be miscarriages of justice.

Or are you suggesting the coppers that beat the sh1t out of those guys (for their confessions) disclosed that fact?

I know I can be a facetious tosser - but you seem to live in a parallel world to my one Matt when it comes to how we hold people to account.

The pecking order is CBE then down to OBE then lowest of these three is MBE...
They all come beneath Knighthoods/Damehoods
which are thrown out like confetti by politicians to their lackeys or donors.
Alan Bates deserves far more than CBE, but isn't part of the establishment, he deserves a Life Peerage
Obscene to remember that Johnson gave a c30yo PA a Peerage! Her advice doesn't seem to have prevented partygate!

It would be beneath me to repeat the social media smears suggesting why Johnson may have given her a peerage. Didn't he propose one for his Father, too? And he gave one to his brother, Jo.

The whole system is rotten and corrupt.

"he gave one to his brother"

Evidence that Johnson has Norfolk ancestors right there.

The bigger question for me is who the fook nominated her for an award in 2020 when the organisation she was head of was being accused left, right and centre. What really sticks in my craw is the reaction of politicians now because of a bloody documentary. They all know this case is decades old for God's sake.

Absolutely, but I'll raise you one here. Yesterday that well known campaigner for social justice Kelvin McKenzie threw his wait behind those seeking justice for the subpostmasters.

I'm also not surprised that knight in shining armour, Richard Branson, has been name checked as one of Jeffrey Epstein's buddies. I do know a few people who have been associated with Branson & the word "sleazeball" comes to mind. More arguments for scrapping the antiquated, corrupt honours system.

Frustrating isn't it?

But as The Eye says,

"While the Post Office stands justly disgraced,
there remains one shortfall larger than any
thrown up by its IT system: that in accountability
for those responsible for the scandal. If the
lessons of one of Britain’s worst abuses of official
and corporate power are to be learned, it must be
re-balanced."

and Marina Hyde affirms,

"Finally (for now), I will say the Post Office scandal has hundreds of human tragedies at its heart – but it is not a natural disaster. These types of victims exist because there are perpetrators, and unless those involved are held to account, we will continue to present as a society with one rule and endless get-outs for executives, and quite another for the little people. The inquiry continues. The story continues. Stay angry, and keep watching."

So I'm going to stay angry.

Sooner or later a change has to come.

Who nominated her? it will have been the Minister for The Post Office, whoever that was at the time. He'll have been given a brief about her nomination that will also have pointed out what Ministers like to call the 'elephant traps', in other words the potential for the decision to come back and bite them in the mail sack. In other words, the Horizon issue would have been mentioned, but the Minister decided it wasn't a problem.

Or swapped for a jail sentence

Is this likely, normally with big cases like this, all the big wigs get away with it?

Even though frankly, there should be jailings for cases like this and extend things like this to Hillsborough, the Battle of Orgreave (there's a lot in there the Tories don't want getting out linking to a whole host of things), Iraq, the PPE Scandal etc etc. I'm sure there are countless others I have missed.

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

That would have been Tolhurst then presumably who held office between 19 July 2018 and 13 February 2020.

Strange that such advice was given and the decision reached when Panorama had all but outed her organisation (and therefore her too) in 2015 I think. When Panorama goes for you, you're usually in trouble and the mud will eventually begin to stick even if not straight away.

It was always a dreadful mess of a project, see below.
Adam Crozier became the chief executive of the Royal Mail Group in February 2003 - a man who has built a lucrative career out of being rubbish. Now the chairman of BT, another British disaster.

This was one of life's major mysteries to me.

How the hell does the Chief Exec of the Football Association go to being ahead of the Post Office.

Only at the top can people change industries so willingly Meanwhile us lot on the rodent wheel are largely held to ransom by our own CV's

Their industry is being an executive- doesn’t matter the context, apparently. Personally I think it helps to have a grounding in the area you’re supposed to be leading, but that doesn’t seem important (which is probably why so many fail).

Which is why politicians fail as well.

Having a background means you would understand that your ideas will not work. having no idea means you can enforce your will leaving everyone else to pick up the pieces in your wake.

I'd like to see the CBE given to Ian Hislop. Private Eye has covered this story brilliantly and relentlessly for years.

Agreed - I find it a bit mad that it wasn’t given more prominent media coverage earlier - Private Eye should be recognised for their efforts but why does it take an ITV drama for action to happen?

And if Vennells is truly as remorseful as she implies then why did it take 1 million signatures on a petition for her to hand it back - why not do it proactively?

Not read the full thread yet but Bates was offered and turned down an OBE.

Should be made to hand it back in a ceremony same as when she received it.
