I’ve never known so little ‘official’ rumour.

For the greater good I know so fair play, but we all like a little nibble on some ‘def info’ just to pass the time 🕰️

I don't really agree that they do lead to deals being scuppered.

With the volume of Football insiders etc, a deal imo won't be scuppered because a club saw a news story in local media. I personally feel Ashton came up with that to cover the failures of some attempts.. if I'm wrong I apologise... but I can't remember any previous chairman. Ceo or any other member of the club bemoaning media stories for scuppering transfers.. if a club jumps in to grab a player from our grasps. Its because they've found out themselves, not through local media. It's too easy within football to know what's happening and where.

But... as said as a town fan and ignoring my beliefs, then of course I'll support what they decide to do.

If a player has an agent worth his salt, he'll ensure he can flush out interest elsewhere if it is better for his client. I'm sure there is the odd deal every now and again that needs to be kept under wraps, I think Celina returning was one, but the club wouldn't be able to keep using that as an excuse to tell the press not to run things.

The press are competing with ITFC, and Town TV, for clicks now and need to be able to.

People forget that things won't always be rosy, it's easy for the club to try and control the press when they are - but at some point we'll need a critical press and hopefully they will be in a position to do that if it is ever required although I do worry about the EADT and it's new subscription model as it's not really worth the money

You have me muddled up with the person who posted it, Frimley. I thought it a little rude that you continued to 'debate' on this thread, but blanked Jon's excellent reply.

You're notorious for cherry-picking replies on here in order to prolong 'discussions' for as long as possible, in my opinion. I've often wondered if you have half the forum on ignore. And yes, we're in disagreement on the fundamental meaning of words here. It's fine with me that you hold alternative definitions; enjoy your day.

Just to clarify, you're annoyance is that I didn't respond to every single post? You may remember the biggest gripe was for the volume of posts made within a thread. So yes Absolutely I picked those I wanted to respond to against those I didn't feel needed responding to.

Candidly Frimley you aren't capable of annoying me online; I know when to switch off 😅 sure you do the same, although it appears this has irked you a little (I'm basing that on "Absolutely" with a capital A).

It was a one-line remark and my very first, on the pattern I've noticed from your multi-pagers over the months/years: most discussion points fleshed out early doors, you cherry-picking one or two posters to respond to and then writing quite relentlessly in the thread, typically as if several points in the opposing argument weren't made many pages beforehand. This is very different to conceding one's argument, obviously, but I don't meant to instruct you on how to discuss topics. You do you as far as I'm concerned, TWTD is a rich tapestry of personalities and debating styles after all.

Sort of agree with this, benefits Ashton and the club but doesn't really help the local press or media whose lifeblood is generating clicks etc.

However, you could easily make the argument that we have a higher probability of getting signings over the line if they aren't leaked, which hopefully leads to more on field success which then benefits everyone including TWTD, EADT etc etc.

The lifeblood of local media is people buying newspapers, not the club feeding them info.
But, everyone stopped buying newspapers hence why local press is now so poor.

Oh no the cap A was in error. Most my posts are full of them hence the constant edits.

Tbh I hadn't really given it a thought. Probably coz most of the replies are the usual so looking back it's quite nice to see a different poster. I may look a bit deeper next time :)

Not necessarily via a news story, just keeping quiet on details generally (which includes the press) makes sense until the deal is done. It's just obvious.

I don't think Ashton has any need to make something up in order to cover failed attempts. Those of us with half a brain in our nut will accept not all attempts come off.

If it's between believing him or you, well Ashton has got a lot right since he came into the ITFC sphere. You, however...

I don't need you to believe me Flash, Same as I dont need to believe a well coached, PR managed CEO just because he's the clubs CEO. I do believe however the media folk who have in the past confirmed the restrictions placed upon them and I'm happy with my own opinion in that TWTD or EADT announcing a transfer rumour wouldn't risk a transfer with so many leaks within football. What it would risk however is a fanbase seeing how many transfers don't come off and the recruitment team facing questions, now you may again prefer it that way, and again as a town fan directly, I understand that need from the man in charge of recruitment, but as per my previous posts on this matter, I don't like the media control, it sets a dangerous precedent.

Anyways think i've covered it all now within this thread.

But why would the recruitment team need to cover up transfers not coming off?

And surely, if the leaking is as widespread as you say, those transfers not coming off would also leak out. Equally, the press can report something not coming off after the player's gone somewhere else (not just our local press, but the player's local press which Ashton will have zero influence over).

No-one has said they believe Ashton just because he's the CEO. That's yet another straw man by yourself.

We believe him because he has no reason to lie, leaking info about the club's dealing is obviously not a good idea, and the "dangerous precedent media control" as you call it is way overblown. It's just a sensible gentlemen's agreement.

Your argument has no logic.

There are several reasons why a club wouldn't want targets being plastered all over a website or newspaper. The main one of course is letting the opposition in on your hoped for purchase and Shanghaiing the deal. Not only that but it could lead to a price war where highest bidder get's his man. I would imagine that clubs would in some cases be aware of other interest and it's up to them to get a deal through without too much fuss.

Final post on this one flash.

They don't need to. They would prefer it to be covered up. When I say they of course I mean ashton due his no stone left speech every window etc. Which tbf most of the transfers have been good so he's done a good job anyway.

And regarding moves off. We've seen news reports of moves that haven't happened before. Of course we don't see much from our local media's but we know why.

You are believing ashton just because he's a ceo. Unless you're telling us he's your best friend or relative. Otherwise he is indeed just a ceo of the club you support.

Again to repeat 1000 times. Leaking info about potential deals will not scupper a deal. Those in well paid jobs will know about it before the media even do.

And yes any form of media control is wrong.

Why would Ashton prefer failed transfer bids to be covered up?
Especially when journalists (especially non local ones) can report them anyway?

I don't believe Ashton because he's the CEO. I believe him because it makes logical sense.

This thread highlights the TWTD approach to responding to posters rather than posts.

Chico and Frimley make a very similar initial point - one has more downvotes than the other - and was responded to more aggressively.

Chico, Frimley and Joe (at points) - have all referred to the muzzling of the press in some aspects, but all of the arguing is pointed towards one.

I get that some people don't like Frimmers or what he posts - but why are you all so keen to engage with him over everyone else? You may as well admit that you enjoy it...

No no, haven't misunderstood, you've shown you're interest in me isn't just because you respond to my posts. You mentioned me directly it wasn't a response. So Needham is spot on with you. Even more so because youre very vocal about what you think of my thoughts yet continue to respond despite knowing where the discussion is going to go..... now i've no problem with that as I accept people's thoughts and enjoy discussions, but you prefer to go down the route of twisting, strawman etc etc in pretty much every chat, so wouldn't your life be easier just to ignore me? unless you're happy to admit you enjoy such interaction and agree it's healthy for people to share different views.

It's not like it's information that needs to be out there for the public good is it? It's sensitive information which does everybody who has an interest in it (ITFC fans) more good by it staying under wraps to protect the interests of the club.

Exactly. They may try and act like journalists, but they are actually the hobbyist press. Just like with videogames. People who like news are either trying to self-enrich or gain status. No-one's life is going to be saved and no-one is going to be safeguarded with this type of information being leaked.

I don't "go down the route of twisting, strawman etc", I explain the logical fallacies in your arguments. For example you change what you originally said (twisting) or you argue against something which is not the original argument and easier to argue against (building a straw man).

This is a fallacious and disingenuous way of debating a topic, which you do time and time again.

I consider it a service, like a teacher with an unruly student, in the hope that one day something will sink in. I wouldn't call it enjoyment as such.

My enjoyment would come if you actually realised an argument has come from a false premise and admitted you were wrong (and saw why you were wrong). Maybe that's a foolish dream on my part. Many have already given up and popped you on ignore.

Truth, logic, patience... all these things I think are important, and most of them you lack. And no, it's not just "different opinions". Opinions that lack logic, are fallacious, are disingenuous - these opinions don't carry equal weight with sensible, logical, truthful opinions that are well thought out.

That last line sounds very much like you want me to stop challenging you.

No, logic isn't an opinion. I am more than happy for people to have different opinions to mine if they're logically thought out. As I said, not all opinions are equal. You might have an opinion that the moon is made of cheese, that neither makes it equal with my opinion nor makes me 'against opinions different to mine'. I'm against opinions that are wrong, illogical or fallacious in any number of ways.

Being correct isn't twisting things or being pedantic. Words are important. If you say something is X then you've said something is X. You can't claim later that you meant Y and I'm just being pedantic!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

No the last line is saying shall we stop doing what you've moaned about me doing for months and clogging up a thread with needless posts where neither one of us is going to agree with the other.

Logic can be opinion btw. You say their isn't logic to something. I say there is. Therfore it's an opinion on what you believe the logic is.

BTW. This service you provide. Has it been requested of you by the owners.

If not. You're admitting that you troll posters so that you are doing your service for erm. The imaginary board police.

Oh BTW.

You disagreed that Ashton used the media leeks as a cover up for his failures with transfer targets.

Do you not find it odd that he hasn't publicly said that rumours about players and their personal circumstances isn't great for club moral, player moral etc etc.. Where's the outcry from ashton about the Williams rumours...

It doesn't effect him. So what it's OK?

Just a thought for you.
