So we’ve lost Scarlett, Hirst and now Ladapo 10:00 - Jan 20 with 5559 viewsChampionsofInnsbruck

I assume the window has expired for us to be able to get anyone in to play that position against Leicester. We’re going into the game with the least amount of options we have yet.

As much as I appreciate Jackson’s work rate and he played very well against Sunderland, Sunderland were full of mistakes and I doubt he’s going to get the same amount of opportunities against Leicester. Our midfield is going to have to be on it in terms of taking opportunities to really be able to get anything out of the game.

This is a bit of a shame because we’re playing Leicester at the absolute best time to play them and a crucial part of our game and McKenna’s strategy is missing in us having no one naturally being able to fulfil the “Hirst” role. It’s clear that he’s not going to play Broadhead in that position leaving us with Jackson and then our overall attacking options from the bench just… Aluko? Jackson clearly won’t play the full 90 so who’s coming on for him?

We were the better side against them in the second half without Hirst or a replacement, so he’s only a tiny part of the picture. Being away from home is the bigger challenge. They’ve only conceded 7 goals so far at home. So yes, even half an opportunity we need to take it. Missing chances has been a bit of an Achilles heel for us at times.

I wasn't to fussed about having players in for these Jan games.. mine was seeing strikers come in so that they have time to train and prep ready for getting at February fixtures.

Still time for that.. I hope we have at least 1 next week.

Good job we have a management team in place who know what they are doing.

Endless whingeing day after day becomes a bit tedious.

Why is it clear he's not going to play Broadhead in that position when Broadhead has moved into that role in recent games. Jackson will start there.

Think people do also forget hirst isn't that prolific in front of goal anyway. Its his contributions that are difficult to replicate with players who don't hold the same profile of player as him.

Something I noticed the other night tho was our attempts at getting Jackson in on goal quicker..

If we are to play him. We can't be playing balls to his feet. None of that.. it's getting balls for him to run onto..

So I can see us in training personally slightly tweaking our final third phases which may see some changes on the flanks as we won't imo be whipping balls in as often.

Well he moved Broadhead to striker last weekend followed by Harness, which told you all you needed to know about what he thought of Ladapo at the time - and subsequently Phil said Ladapo’s move was meant to be confirmed last weekend.

No issues for me. 9 days left after Leicester to get a striker in with just Maidstone in the cup.

We couldn't do anything about Scarlett or Hirst not being available. Ladapo wouldn't have featured anyway based on recent history. I'm not entirely sure what is new here to differentiate this from the dozen or so other threads you've started complaining that we haven't magicked up a striker yet who is as good as Hirst, within budget, and available. Stop pissing your pants all over the forum, mate.

I didn't think Broadhead was particularly effective there against Wimbledon or Sunderland.

As it is, the extra space that is often available in away games on the counter-attack should suit Jackson's game. And I thought he had a decent game there against Stoke.

If Jackson chases the ball down and doesn’t allow Leicester any time on the ball, we will do just fine. He’s actually more than capable of carrying out hirsts role. He doesn’t need to score, just open up areas for Chaplin burns broadhead.

Biggest miss is Morsy,
Plus our failure probably since September/ October when it was clear Scarlett was to raw and Freddie had reached his ceiling we needed two strikers and can't attract one this isn't good times,
I won't knock jacko he tries and Sunderland was a good game for him,
He's more a right wide player,
I think you meen broadhead not burgess, actually miss read broadheads there so not sure who you meen

Good job we used the window to toughen up the defensive/distribution area of our midfield by signing Travis, then.

Stop Leicester from scoring and we certainly have the firepower (from various positions) to give ourselves a good chance of getting at least one goal.

We couldn't sign anyone in September/October, mate. We've had just under 3 weeks to be able to sign a new striker and we have another 11 days left to do so, which is when most business in this transfer window starts to happen.

And what club is going to want to sell us one of their best strikers? Especially with so many still having a very real chance of making the playoffs, as things stand. All the teams down to 13th place are within 5 points of Hull in 6th.

I thought the transfer window was set to close at 23:00 on 1st Feb, still a long time left to get the right players in, KMc will not rush into just any signing, players have to be 100% the right player. If that player is not available at the right price for Town, this window, so be it, the current squad and tactics will be good enough to keep us at the top end of the league. Big decisions being made for the right reasons. What a time to be supporting Town!

Agree with DJR that Broadhead wasn't overly effective there against Sunderland, but it was striking to me that Ladapo remained on the bench throughout (even when Broadhead came off on 89'). Perhaps you weren't able to see the Wimbledon and Sunderland games, as I can't recall Broadhead playing that position for us previously.

I don't believe Freddie was being considered for this game either, so I don't think that element of your post hits the mark. Sarmiento minus Ladapo+Scarlett is an improvement to the overall attack for me, from what I've seen of Jeremy and Jackson lately. Imagine we're all in agreement that we'd have loved our first-choice 9 here by now.

Closing down space is a big part of KMc game plan, Kayden is very, very good at this in advanced areas of the pitch, also he is very good helping to create space for others to exploit.

I'm aware of the window, Ashton always says his team are scouting,
Not very effective striker wise when as said two were not up to it,
All said the two loans are good business, just not strikers,

McKenna is a big fan of Scarlett so I would imagine he was keen on that signing. Ladapo was signed primarily to get us out of League 1 but did well enough to justify being given a chance at this level. Not sure what you think we could have done, other than predict the future.

You can scout all you like, but if parent clubs won't release their best men (without us breaking the bank), what are we to do? You can't blame others for wanting to get their own targets in before letting go the players who are currently doing that job.

I think the annoyance is when Ashton is asked he will always say we have big plans for the next transfer window and that it will be exciting and we are always working behind the scenes to get the best players and get things moving. Then we get to the window and it’s more or less silence with little happening and then letting players leave.

And 04/05 we didn’t strengthen in Jan whilst being top of the league, same for 14/15 and even under Lambert in 19/20 we were top in Jan I think and didn’t strengthen. Then we fell away every time and it’s hard not to imagine this could happen this season.

Have the signings of Travis and Sarmiento not strengthened us then?
