Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 12:32 - Feb 21 by pointofblue | If the size of the fanbase demanded a bigger stadium, it would have been built - even if that meant leaving Elland Road. |
It's actually demanded a smaller one in recent times. They closed the upper tier of the East Stand for much of their time outside the Premiership. [Post edited 21 Feb 2024 12:48]

Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 09:54 - Feb 21 by BlueBoots | It's not something you can judge solely on attendances, it's a cultural thing; there are 11-12 Rugby League clubs on the doorstep of Leeds, Rugby League is played in schools in the area, and there will be the armchair sports fans. There are tens of thousands of people who are just going to prefer following that sport to football. |
This time last year I was living in what is known as the rugby league heartlands, and let me tell you it's like a religion there. On any given day, easily 50% of males who weren't in a uniform would be wearing a rugby league shirt/coat/hoodie/wahtever of some time.... either a super league/championship team, an amateur team or a NRL team. That sounds a lot but is not an exaggeration. I moved to the area, and had no connection (and prefer my rugby with scrums) but the local amatuer club the minis (under 7s) would kick off at 8am, then the next age group after them and so on through the days until the open grade kicked off at 3pm. People would spend all day at the club watching from minis upwards.... everyone stays afterwards to watch the rest of the games. And then the next day the womens/girls teams would do it all over again, but less teams and finishing earlier so that they could all go watch Super League/Championship in the afternoon. It is ingrained in people... and in an area with reltively low social mobility, they play for the same amatuer club becuase their Dad did and their Grandad did. In some areas, a lot of the teams were linked to colleries and Team A will hate Team B because their pit closed earlier, or they went on strike a day later or returned earlier... or in other areas because one team are associated with one long gone textile factory and the other team another long gone textile factory.

Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 01:11 - Feb 21 by Sarge | Same with Leeds imo. They were massive when Ipswich were massive, which is to say decades ago, before I and many others were even born. Vastly overrated club and fanbase, talk of their greatness is entirely self declared. Imagine thinking you’re god’s gift to football and then just being Millwall with a funny accent and a strong smell of Bisto. |
Bisto Millwall is fantastic. Absolutely cutting, in a very polite way

To be fair if they had a 50k plus stadium they would fill it , you only have to look at West Ham , old 35k new 60k , they are a very big club and their self entitlement is second to non as a fan base.

Thanks for elaborating on the point I was making; not lived in the area myself, but had to spend time between the Leeds - Hudderfield - Wakefield triangle for work in the past, so got a feel for how passionate they are about their Rugby League in the area. I suppose hard to convince people on a football forum that there are people who have very little interest (if any) in the sport!

He did too. Nipped him, pokes, spat on him, trod on his feet, elbows, sledging, calf rakes, the nut, the full suite of 70s black arts. I was in the little stand behind the goal and saw/heard a bit of it. Right up to the point Allan Hunter had a little word. I quote ‘one more and I’ll break your f**cking leg’ (according to Mr Wark). All went quiet after that from Mr Clarke. Ahhh, what game or series of games that was. [Post edited 21 Feb 2024 18:44]

Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 09:31 - Feb 21 by Danny_G | Rugby league really isn't a draw away from football. Wakefield averaged about 4,000 attendance last season. Even Leeds Rhinos barely get into five figures. Leeds's support really is not great at all for a one-club city of that size. Average home crowds have been well below 30,000 for most of the last 20 years. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/besucherzahlenentwicklung/verein/39 |
There's less direct competition as it's mainly different seasons but Cricket is big in Yorkshire too, the home of Yorkshire being at Headingley too

But the point is, they don't have a 50k stadium. Saying they 'should be getting 70k' when they can only fit in 38k and there is no desire amongst the fans or the club to leave Elland Road, means the whole thing is a bit of a moot point.

Sheffield is Yorkshire's number one football city ... Leeds is a distant second even if you merge them with Bradford.

Also worth noting these two other facts: 1) Leeds has four sizeable universities with over 100,000 students registered 2) Outside of London, Leeds sees the largest proportion of students remain in the city after graduating. As someone who studied there in the 90s and stayed there during the summer when most students had left - I can tell you large swathes of the northern half of the city are deserted. And one thing these students all had in common - none of them support Leeds.
Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 06:39 - Feb 22 with 2592 views | PioneerBlue | All season there has been too much concern for parachute clubs, it even started to permeate the club coaches and players. I get that, it’s media diversion, helping play us down and take attention away. But for fans… Focus on ourselves, what we do off the pitch and in the stadium. Who cares what Leicester Leeds Southampton or anyone else thinks or says unless factually inaccurate. Stay humble. Deliver wins. Get promoted. [Post edited 22 Feb 2024 8:57]

Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 23:52 - Feb 20 by squiz | Leicester and saints forums are good reading too. Saints fans seem resigned to the playoffs and some Leicester fans are wobbling too. |
I have just spent a half hour wallowing in the Leicester forum. Thanks squiz. The usual "We're big clubs they are only small". "Defected goals". Dont get me on defected goals. Apparently Bobby Robson did not leave us when he got us promoted. So why should McKenna. "We all want Leicester to win tomorrow." Actually no. I want you to kick lumps out of each other in a dour 0-0. Ha, ha. A bunch of bed wetters. But what they are good at is numbers, figures, charts. Must have used computers, slide rules and an abacus to work that lot out. Every one proving that they will win. I shall monitor their future progress. If only to find out how we are doing.

Bobby Robson never got us promoted. Bill McGarry did that then left for Wolves. Robson took a while to build the team, even had Robson out chants during his early games. It was worth the wait.

The nice Mr Hunter who wouldn’t take any sh£t off anybody. He was as hard as nails and opponents didn’t tangle with him. Of course, Kevin Beattie looked an absolute monster and I was not to be messed with either. Damn fine players and the best pairing I saw play for us. Butcher and Osman ran them close and it was amazing to have two brilliant pairs of central defenders play for us one straight after the other. It’s no coincidence their time mirrored our greatest period.
Leeds and Norwich online reaction to it going 3-3 on 10:26 - Feb 23 with 1807 views | carlo88 | The main Leeds forum is very odd, they seem to talk very little about how the other three clubs in the top four are doing, it's all focused on themselves. Even their 'Other Teams matches' focuses on the Premier League for some weird reason!
