London marathon this weekend, a few questions..... 15:07 - Apr 17 with 2339 viewsBloots

.....firstly, is it too late to enter?

Secondly, how much training do I need to do before Sunday? (I'm probably about a stone overweight but I can already do about 2km on the treadmill)

Finally, what time will I need to finish in for around the top 20?

Cheers.

Ran in 2019. It's an absolutely ridiculous day. Lines of people 4/5 deep shouting at you for 26 miles. Spots like the Narrow, Tower Bridge etc are totally surreal.

My other half is running so am supporting her for once. Better only have a few pints on the run around various care package points!

The real question, to make a hilarious sign or not?!?!

Probably stick to a jalfrezi.

Do the sign it does help the supported. I have also run London a few times and the joy of seeing family and friends on the way round, and as you near the end it really picks you up.

I've started running recently and I feel like I'm injured way more than when I wasn't exercising.

Therefore we can conclude that exercise is terrible for you.

I was about 23rd in 2017 with a 2:17. I reckon you'll be fine rocking up with no entry, and 2km of training in your legs.

....what is it? About 20 miles?

That's about 8 miles an hour, and I walk at about 4 mph.

I can definitely run twice as fast as I can walk!

Easy, innit.

I'd cut back on the drinking Saturday evening. 7-8 points and half a dozen shorts maximum.

Truly impaired.

How long are you going to allow for the road side interview with Clare Balding?

You could post a thread on here the morning of asking if anyone’s got a spare entry. It sometimes works for match tickets.

Yeah, that’s about the right time to cover 26.2 miles in a Mark 1 Escort

Can I just say well done and good luck. That’s quite a record. I’ll try anything once (Barcelona marathon for me in 2011), but I rarely have the dedication, discipline, focus or consistency to go back for more. 14 is very impressive. Not least getting through the ballot.

The Barcelona marathon(bit hilly) is tougher than the London (mainly flat).
Many years older, wet and windy forecast, so anything under 5 hours, I will be happy with.

It was a brilliant experience. I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t done it, as the crowd support was incredible (I can’t compare with London though, having not even been a spectator there). Not too hilly, although there was a bridge 3/4 of the way through that was probably nothing normally but looked like the Himalayas at that point lol

I will be in my normal orange running top. I am going to the Excel in London tomorrow to pick up my number and pack. It will tell me where I am starting from.

I only run for ice cream vans or if I'm being chased. Don't see the need for running now we have cars.
